Ohio Police Rescue Caged Puppies Strapped to Van Roof

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ohio-police-rescue-caged-puppies-strapped-van-roof-n344001

A police dash-cam video shows officers rescuing four scared puppies from a cage strapped to the roof of a van traveling on an Ohio highway Friday.

Akron police pulled over the driver and his family after receiving multiple 911 calls about the dogs, who were wind-battered but didn't have any injuries, Sgt. Kris Beitzel told NBC affiliate WKYC (http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/akron/2015/04/17/police-pull-over-van-with-caged-puppies-on-roof/25967759/).

"I did ask him why the dogs were not riding in the car, and he said he had far more important things to put in the car, meaning his children, and there wasn't room," Beitzel said.

The family of six, who was not identified, was driving about 70 mph on Interstate 76 when police caught up with them.

They were driving 300 miles from Ashland County, Ohio, to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, WKYC reported.

"Sure enough ... dogs in a cage on the roof," one of the 911 callers said. "Unbelievable."

The terrified puppies were huddled together in their cage, which was covered on three sides with a tarp, Beitzel said.

The family told police that they didn't want to keep the 3-month-old dogs, but also didn't want to put them down.

"I didn't see any injuries. They would not leave each other," Beitzel said of the pups.
"They had urinated all over the inside of the cage.
When I tried to get them out, they were trying to crawl back in."

The family, Mennonites, handed the puppies over to police, and was told that it's against the law to transport animals on top of a vehicle.

They were given a warning.
"He understood that.
He said had he known, he would have agreed to never transport them," Beitzel told WKYC.

The Mennonite community, a Christian group, sees animals as property, and the family had put the puppies on top of the vehicle because of their beliefs, police told WKYC.

The puppies were taken to Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron for a check-up and then will be taken to an animal shelter.

You might want to, but be careful. It might not go the way you hope.

Ive been there, you have to lose before you can learn how to win, im no rookie and I have confidence. How about you, you seem to be the kind that worries youre going to get hurt. Dont worry after you get hit a couple of times you dont feel it, then its whether you got any real balls, forum balls dont work

I've been involved in my share. Most probably a lot more violent and dangerous than anything you've ever experienced. I never take the opponent lightly. Never. And I never engage unless it's out of my hands. I'll always try to avoid the physical altercation. But, when it becomes inevitable, I take it seriously.

Usually, people try to avoid initiating a physical confrontation with me.

That is horrible. People are stupid.

I called the police when I saw the PU in front of me, in January, a cold, nasty, rainy, miserable day. It was a crappy vehicle, old beat up, no tailgate, with a pair of inbred nitwits in it. The man was in the drivers seat, the woman in the passenger seat, and two hunting dog between them. In the bed of the truck, sitting with her back to the cab, shivering, huddled up with her knees drawn to her chest, like she was in a blizzard in the North Pole, was a female child, looked to be under age 10. She had no hat, no gloves, a sweatshirt and jeans, barefoot. I followed them a while, they had West Virginia tags, and were heading for I 75. The sheriff's office caught up with them, and the child was handed over to CPS.

I was very late for work, but it was worth it.

Children, dogs, people are stupid. This couple valued the hunting dogs more than the small child.

I was going to post a picture of people eating dogs in Asia, like Obama admitted doing, but the pictures are so offensive, I decided not to. Also, saying "Asian family does an Obama" would make me as foolish as you.

heres a guy who inserts. Comment about how wants to kick someone's a** and how tough he is and he calls me the "tough guy"? That's pretty rich right there. It's especially odd after I tell him how I try to avoid physical confrontations. This guy is delusional.

Thank you you for not offering me your dreamed up life's experiences. I really don't care.
