Dr. Warren Weinstein, an American aid worker held hostage by al Qaeda, was accidentally killed in a U.S. counter-terrorism operation, as was an Italian hostage, Giovanni Lo Porto, and another American who was an al Qaeda leader, the White House announced on Thursday.

Officials also announced that a separate operation killed Adam Gadahn, another American who became a prominent propagandist for al Qaeda.

The White House said it was unaware the four were present at the targeted sites. President Obama was set to make a statement after 10 a.m. ET.

"The operation targeted an al-Qa'ida-associated compound, where we had no reason to believe either hostage was present, located in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan. No words can fully express our regret over this terrible tragedy," the White House said in a statement.

"February 12, 2015 Rand Paul is making a climate-change calculation that could cost him.
The senator from Kentucky and would-be 2016 contender has bucked the GOP establishment on an array of issues ranging from national security to drug policy. And in recent months, Paul has started to build a record suggesting that he supports action to cut air pollution and believes that man-made greenhouse-gas emissions are contributing to climate change.

That stance sets Paul apart from many Republican 2016 hopefuls who have publicly cast doubt on humankind's impact on climate change and duck the question of whether the U.S. should curb emissions."

I pay attention and don't get told what I need to think based on some stupid catch all platform.

If Adam Gadahn was the target, then the hostages were legitimate collateral damage.

Fox is absolutely apoplectic. Like epilepsy, Post Obama-Killed-Osama Stress Disorder can become very acute at times. Send meds.

So how do they prove they actually got him if it's claimed there are no boots on the ground?

The only certainty is a DNA analysis. So who got the DNA?

I don't think they count CIA/ special ops types as boots on the ground. Or it could have been local intel.

Right. Boots on the ground are combat forces. Overt type. Covert combat forces are currently operating in scores of nations. We don't announce it by claiming boots on the ground.

If true then Rand Paul is no longer under my consideration.
