CLEVELAND - A convicted killer who walked away from an Ohio prison farm in 1959 has been caught in Florida by members of the U.S. Marshals Service.

A statement from the marshals says 79-year-old Frank Freshwaters, of Akron, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter for killing a pedestrian with his car in 1957. He initially received a suspended sentence but was imprisoned in 1959 for a parole violation. He fled the camp in Ohio later that year.

Seems like a waste of taxpayer money to go after this guy at this point, in my opinion.

I wonder if he's kept his nose clean the last 56 years.

I agree Patty. Complete waste of time and taxpayer money. If 58 years has gone by and he hasn't killed anybody else?

Meh.. let God decide his fate.

If he had not run away he would be out of jail by now.

So he has only himself to blame if he dies in prison.

Compassionate and practical conservatism at its finest yet again Macky! ;-)

Is your knowledge of history THAT bad?

Regardless of that, they are spending tax payer money to find him, extradite him and then to put him in prison (if they put him back in). In California, jail costs about $40K a year per prisoner.

Worth all that to you for this guy?

Why did he run away?

I guess he just didn't want to pay his debt to society.

But hopefully he will now.

Your knowledge of history really sucks even for a lib.

This man ran away in 1959 when NAZI fugitives had already been on the run for 14 years.

But maybe you didn't know when WWII ended.

Maybe, but it seems a bit unlikely that anyone who loved the person he killed would still be alive.

Maybe your mind stopped way back in 1959 ... or with Eichmann in 1962 .. LOL

I wonder if he's kept his nose clean the last 56 years.

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. He needed to be caught. If prisoners knew that no one would go looking for them if they fled, that would encourage more and more to bolt.

John List murdered his entire family, 5 people, his wife, his mother, and three kids, and walked away under a new name and lived and worked. He was caught 22 years later because of America's Most Wanted, and he died in prison.

You have to pay your debt for your crimes, especially a death.

Yes.

Then you pay the 40 grand per year. I have no interest in contributing.

You've been doing a little Googling I see.

But since you are already busted about your ignorance of WWII, its too little, too late.

Negligent manslaughter implies accident. May have been drunk driving. I'm going to break down and read the article.

No meat in that article. Voluntary manslaughter screams drunk driving though. The way I see his arrest and incarceration: golden parachute has been deployed. Prisons here in Ohio are far nicer than any nursing home in Florida with better food and medical treatment.

I think if you escape from prison and don't get caught for a while you should never have to go back.

Yeah, that's it.

If he has let him be. Good grief. As Patty Hill said, waste of money. Like putting a 99 year old Nazi on trail, what's the point at this point?
