Rick Santorum, the former Republican senator from Pennsylvania, will announce today that he will seek the GOP nomination for president in 2016, ABC News has learned. ABC News' Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos will sit down for an exclusive interview with Santorum this afternoon.


Santorum, 57, is set to reveal his presidential intentions at an event today in Cabot, Pa., near his childhood home.

While warning of the dangers of a nuclear Iran, the former senator told Meet The Press that if he became president, he would tell Iranian leaders that, “either you open up those [nuclear] facilities, you begin to dismantle them and make them available to inspectors, or we will degrade those facilities through air strikes, and make it very public that we are doing that.” Other G.O.P. candidates have not been so ready to talk about engaging Iran militarily.
