It's really not clear whether Bernie wants to break up monopolies or create them. This won't clear anything up.

He wasn't doing that, though. He was saying if we focus our time and resources on feeding people in need rather than coming up with yet another mediocre pair of shoes or a vastly over-engineered razor, we'd probably not have any hungry people anymore.

Yet it's coming up with new products that gives people choices they value that generates the wealth to feed people. It's reducing them to a monopolized single one size fits all product that would lead to mediocrity.

while your pretentiousness is amusing, it doesn't change the fact that the idiots in the video completely misrepresent sanders' positions.

your inability or unwillingness to acknowledge that speaks more to your intellectual dishonesty than my ability to think.

Your argument against the video indicated it did understand Sander's position, just that you disagree with it whereas I agree with it. Not sure how disagreement implies lack of comprehension.

And yet there is Green pinpointing exactly where disagreement lies.

You, del, seem to not comprehend reducing an argument to an absurdity.

Obvious to the sentient among us, del, you show flashed on intelligence and knowledge, it's really too bad you find it beneath you to use it here and instead simply lower yourself to ridicule.

Again, about the only post that got the video--perhaps the only one to watch it--for that is exactly what the video was making fun of. Now you may agree with Sander's or you may agree with the video, but it's right on target what Sander's is running on.

tip #1- reductio ad absurdum arguments =/= strawman arguments

tip #2- the video is an example of the latter, not the former

tip #3- when attempting to condescend to someone, it's best to do so coherently

Excess/indulgence =/= free market

So his message is let's be less materialistic in order to solve materialistic problems. Even if we generalize the message there's a contradiction to it.

Sanders associating choice with starving children is dumb, or retarded to use del's meager vocabulary. I don't trust him for laying a guilt trip on those whose life is enhanced by having a choice of products. It is counter-productive to preach to people that way. He knows it, too, or at least we should be allowed to say that anyone who self-righteously defeats his own cause by insulting normal people should question what is really driving him.

On his Wal-Mart sermon, he should point out that the Walton Family did nothing to earn their $100 billion and should give it all back to their employees. Instead, he suggests only that they should leech less off the ones who really produce their windfall wealth. Or even give some of it to cover all starving children, since no inheritance belongs to any Heirheads except by the medieval aristocratic laws their anti-democratic class imposes on us.

Sanders is opposed to monopolies.

The federal government is a monopoly. He does not object to more and more government control.

Newpublius

No, he doesn't.

The comment epitomizes a worldview where there'd be tradeoff between deodorant choices (consumer choice) and food for children. That statement only exists in the context of believing that government should be allocating the resources in the economy; specifically in this case, allocating less resources to deodorant and sneakers and more to food for children. . The tenet of limiting consumer choice is a fundamental aspect of socialism rooted in Upton Sinclair's, [I]The Jungle. Many socialists view consumer choice as a massive waste of resources, apparently you do too. The one size fits all consumerism is very typical of socialist societies and is symbolized by things like the Trabant and the overall lack of style in the clothing, particularly Communist China. Socialists like Sanders have been lured by the Sirens of Socialism. The view that free markets are inherently irrational and that they need to be disciplined—of course, by the likes of Senator Sanders himself (because, after all, HE KNOWS BETTER)—then, and only then, resources could be optimally allocated in a way such that those wasteful deodorant/sneaker choices we don’t really need could be reallocated as food for children.

He doesn't like private monopolies, but make no mistake about it, socialists want state monopolies. Take the theme and apply it to virtually any industry. California wine, TN whiskey, you can prevent choice in those industries and compel the food that gets fermented to turn into corn flake with raisins.
