President Obama's jobs panel missing in action

At this point, the hiatus — which reached the half-year mark Tuesday — might be less awkward than an official meeting, given the hornet’s nest of issues that could sting Obama (http://www.politico.com/tag/barackobama) and the council members if the private-sector panel gets together.

For starters, there’s the discomfort many business leaders may feel in appearing to embrace the president with his reelection bid (http://www.politico.com/2012-election/barack-obama/index.html) in full swing.

Then, there’s the fact that some members of the commission have conspicuously declined to endorse him. And that Obama has conspicuously declined to endorse some of their recommendations. And that some of what Obama won’t endorse has been warmly embraced by Republicans, including likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney (http://www.politico.com/p/pages/mitt-romney).

To cap it all off, several of the companies whose CEOs serve on the panel are involved to some extent in outsourcing (http://www.politico.com/p/pages/outsourcing)

President Barack Obama’s Jobs Council hasn’t met publicly for six months, even as the issue of job creation dominates the 2012 election (http://www.politico.com/tag/2012).

To cap it all off, several of the companies whose CEOs serve on the panel are involved to some extent in outsourcing (http://www.politico.com/p/pages/outsourcing) — a fact that could undercut the ferocious attack Obama and his campaign are mounting on Romney over his alleged ties to the practice.
One former administration official said the current political atmosphere could be prompting the CEOs and other business leaders to lie low.

“The thing is supposed to be bipartisan, so a lot of times they don’t want to get into things that could be used by either side in the election,” said the former aide, who asked not to be named. “The businesspeople, for the most part, don’t want to get into the middle of political fighting.”

Jim, oh Jim...

Can we give these guys a break?

Have they not done what they said they would? Have they not created jobs for themselves?

What more do you want? Isn't it kind of un-patriotic to be thinking of yourself in this troubles economy.

Look, these guys have served their purpose. They made it look that Obama was doing something more than channeling Walter Mitty and pretending to be Tiger Woods. They also "affirmed" Obama's war on the rich and tax increases...

Hey, they served their purpose, have been paid their "$2,500 an hour.....

Get of their backs. They're patriots serving their country.

I mean, did actually think they would actually DO anything?

A guy who never even ran a lemonaid stand is going to instruct CEO's of companies...he won't even understand what they are saying. Romney would undestand however...

A 15% corporate tax rate is NOT = to a JOB HIRE.

Obama is too busy playing golf and campaigning to meet with his Jobs Committee. What an incompetent boob Obama is!

The part that I don't understand is whether you actually believe that, or whether that is what is on your talking point list from Soros.

Free up corporate capital and if there is demand, it will expand. That is economics 101.

Public school education?

The GOP can always go back and say YES to all those Jobs Bills. :)

Gee, Obama has grown the Federal government by 12 percent without their help. He's demonstrated time and time again that he's quite happy to operate as a law unto himself. Why don't you just suggest to him that he just go ahead and do it?

The Rs are smart enough to pass many jobs bills (D senate won't consider them) that benefit private businesses, not just unions and contributors like Obama does.

Mine was posted around 5 am, eastern time, and the other one was around 10am. They really should be combined, to prevent confusion. So, I'll combine them.
