WASHINGTON — Without public notice or debate, the Obama administration has expanded the National Security Agency (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/n/national_security_agency/index.html?inline=nyt-org)‘s warrantless surveillance of Americans’ international Internet traffic to search for evidence of malicious computer hacking, according to classified N.S.A. documents.

Public outrage = 0

In mid-2012, Justice Department lawyers wrote two secret memos permitting the spy agency to begin hunting on Internet cables, without a warrant and on American soil, for data linked to computer intrusions originating abroad — including traffic that flows to suspicious Internet addresses or contains malware, the documents show.

So, before the November 2012 elections? Boy...if these Leftists who are so genuine when it comes to privacy rghts had known about this, Obama would have lost. Huh?

The government can also gather significant volumes of Americans’ information — anything from private emails to trade secrets and business dealings — through Internet surveillance because monitoring the data flowing to a hacker involves copying that information as the hacker steals it.

Significant volumes of American's info......we have many observers here who would vote for a third Obama term.

I would imagine SCOTUS will rule against this if a case makes it there.

I think the people need to start "ruling against" government spying

Its not a right/left issue. Both sides of Congress wanted to extend the PA last week even with the portions ruled illegal intact. There was a small group of representatives from both sides that objected....led by Rand Paul.

Of course the NSA spying was being done without our knowledge until Snowden filled us in, so how secure do you feel that the new law will be honored?

Oh, it used to be a left right issue.
