BIRMINGHAM, Ala (Reuters) - A federal judge on Monday blocked Alabama's tough new immigration law from taking effect this week, making it the latest U.S. state to have a measure on illegal immigration halted in court.

Chief U.S. District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn cited the need for more time to consider the legal challenges against the law in an injunction that blocks implementation of the law through September 29.

"In entering this order the court specifically notes that it is in no way addressing the merits of the motions," the judge wrote in her two-page order.

shall we give her the benefit of doubt and she really needs more time to decide whether people who came here with out necessary papers and clearances broke the law?

I think it's because there are amny challenges to the law and she can't review them all in time. Still, it does leave the impression that the state is working against us...

Agreed, this bill is more complex because the law makes it illegal to stop and render aid to an injured illegal or to have any contact with them at all. There are other restrictions that go way beyond AZ law.

Bama is well known to be tough on immigration but they don't have nearly as many illegals as other states due to use of eVerify but many farms and small businesses are exempt so they are being proactive.
