That's true, and I'm happy cos it's a big day for all my American friends here.

Aussies have Australia Day, but it's only a public celebration of the landing of the First Fleet, and Aussies don't usually have parties, etc. It's just another public holiday, like the Queen's Birthday or Boxing Day.

But Britain doesn't have a national day - not that I know about anyway.

British National Day is a proposed official national day (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_day) for the United Kingdom (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom) and a celebration of Britishness (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britishness). Currently the UK has no single official national day, although the Queen's Official Birthday (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_Official_Birthday) is used for this purpose in some contexts.
Britain has no unique national day (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_day). It has a number of days of celebration which go largely uncelebrated, and others which are associated with the constituent countries (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constituent_countries) of Britain. The latter category includes St George's Day (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_George%27s_Day) in England (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/England), St Andrew's Day (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Andrew%27s_Day) in Scotland (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland), St David's Day (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_David%27s_Day) in Wales (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wales) and St Patrick's Day (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Patrick%27s_Day) in Northern Ireland (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Ireland).

I remembered a bit about these occassions, but had to look them up to get it right. There is Guy Fawkes Day too on Nov. 5th. with the burning in effigy of the famous traitor.

Nebraska throws down. I've been hearing neighborhood fireworks for the last two weeks. Last night I had a party with a bunch of friends over drinking and then we went out in a field and played Frisbee with a light-up disc drunk off our asses and had a glorious time. Fireworks tonight. Then I'll be sick of them 'til next year, even though we'll likely be hearing them for the next week and a half. We must have seen 500 or more last night during the couple hours we were throwing.

Oh also we had freshly-cut Nebraskan cow steaks from one of my roommate's family farms. Corn-fed cows. Best steak ever. Salt and pepper is all it took. Yum. Oh and Bush's grillin' beans with bacon, ofc.

/Edit: Happy 4th everybody. Stay safe.

You know what? I just told Pol that when a flamebaiting troll like you says something to draw an adverse reaction to expect that reaction.

Let me just say it takes a special person to trash a thread celebrating our nation's birth with ignorant, partisan trolling.

If y'all just ignored the partisan snipe in this thread it would have gone away. But nnnnooo y'all bit off a big ol piece and then complain about how bitter it tastes. If you're going to complain about partisian snipe then don't indulge yourself of partisian snipe.

I got it the moment he put it up. We would of course not expect Conservatives to get it. But here's a hint. Certain people who are fine citizens of this country are now quite independent where marriage is concerned where they no longer have to worry about what their straight counterparts think or whether they will object to them marrying or not because legally it really doesn't matter anymore! Got it now? :)

A couple of 'hours' on grocery shopping? Markets some distance from each other? Samples?

I'm using this, I think I save money with my garden talents, I love veggies grown in my own yard. I didn't know I was saving this much time as well.

Well, the store we went to was on the other side of town, then we had to go to another side of town to another store to get some other ingredients. Plus, the Walmart was very busy, so it took some time. I'm exaggerating a bit, though, it really only took about two hours total between both stores and drive time.
