When Nikki Haley was elected governor of South Carolina in November 2010, every Republican I knew told me that she would be on every GOP presidential candidate's VP short list in 2012 and could even be a potential frontrunner in her own right for the 2016 presidential nomination.
It didn't work out that way.
Haley struggled through her first term -- beset by poor relationships with her own party in the state legislature, a major hacking scandal involving the state's revenue agency (http://www.postandcourier.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=search&facet.filter=Keywords:Hacked&sortbydate=1) and a sputtering economy. Democrats even talked about her as vulnerable heading into her 2014 reelection race.
All of those dire predictions of unfulfilled political potential seemed a million miles away Monday when Haley announced that she was calling on the state legislature to remove the Confederate flag from the state Capitol grounds in the wake of the murders of nine people at a church in Charleston last week.
Haley was poised and forceful -- acknowledging that there are good-intentioned people who value the Confederate flag while making clear that it was time for the flag to come down.
"It is time to remove that flag from the Capitol grounds," she said to prolonged applause.
"That flag, while an integral part of our past, does not represent the future of our great state."

The flag came down, I don't believe anyone will come within 30 feet of her now.

Wait, she is the Gov that signed the law that took the flag down, The law that was put into effect by the Democrats in 62.
And she is the one that people need to stay away from. That is as bad a Slick Willy Clinton saying that he almost cried when they signed the law to take the symbol of hate in SC down. The same Clinton that signed the law allowing it to fly over the State house in Arkansas.
Democrats are a piece of work!

Yep, in 1962 when the civil rights was at its peak, thanks for reminder of what a Dixiecrat was.

I think due to her support of removing the confederate flag it'll be a tough call for any candidate to have run as the Veep.

If she went against the will of her constituents why should they support her?
I'm really proud of this lady. She showed real leadership following the tragedy in Charleston. She's be an excellent VP pick for just about anyone .. including Bernie Sanders!

This is actually a good example of what is wrong with our system. Clearly, Haley is not trying to appeal to the people of her state. She's trying to appeal to a national audience. That's not your job, toots.

From a Republican perspective, what's wrong with Kay Bailey Hutchison? She's intelligent, flexible, and experienced.

So are courage and wisdom.
She capitulated under pressure. So did Bentley.
