The Racist History of Gun Control....Pt. 1 The Black Panther Party in Oakland had been operating what it called Black Panther Police Patrols. The members of the patrol would listen to police scanners and then hustle to the scene of an arrest, where they would remind the suspect of his legal rights. They also showed up armed, because California then was an open-carry state because, of course, freedom.

The article provided above describes the motivations for passage of the Mulford Act in California, which preceded the Gun Control Act of 1968 at the Federal level. Take note of the language used to justify passing the law, and compare that to what is being used today by the gun control special interest groups. The historical origins of contemporary gun control within the United States are filled with racial hatred and bigotry. So much so, gun control was once a Republican issue. Ronald Reagan was perhaps the most effective gun controller of the 20th century, as both POTUS and Governor of California.

I would like to start a dialogue detailing 150 years of racially motivated legislation and jurisprudence aimed at restricting the right of self defense for minorities and the poor within the United States. This is the first part of that discussion. Feel free to share your observations.
