Applications for unemployment benefits in the U.S. are hovering close to a four-decade low, a sign of muted firings and steady progress in the labor market.

Jobless claims rose by 5,000 to 274,000 in the week ended Aug. 8, from a revised 269,000 in the prior period, a report from the Labor Department showed Thursday. The four-week moving average, a less-volatile measure of job cuts, declined to the lowest level in more than 15 years.

Limited staffing reductions indicate employers are content with headcounts as U.S. demand holds up against weaker global markets. Another report Thursday showed retail sales climbed in July as hiring keeps consumers spending and the economy growing.

“We haven’t seen claims at a 300,000 level since February and the economy has shown a lot of signs of improvement since then, ignoring what’s going on beyond the borders,” Jennifer Lee, a senior economist at BMO Capital Markets in Toronto, said before the report.

Winning has it's privileges ... maybe someday you'll experience it.

I have a great Wage
I have a Home and several Rental Properties
I got Benefits

... so what's you're problem? Why aren't you doing well.

The ignore function here isn't great, I wish it were like Facebook's block feature where the blocked person ceases to exist and vice versa, but here at least I don't have to read his stupid reply which I'm sure is pointless, unintelligent and petty.

So it could be worse I guess.

It's kind of spooky, like I'm alone... but not really.

Like somebody is right behind me, and yet nobody's here.

Eerie!

The labor force participation rate (http://fortune.com/2015/07/02/us-labor-force-participation-drops/) is also at an all time low.

14 million workers less than we had when Obama took office. He's simply the worst President....by f'n far...in history. A catastrophe we'll be decades recovering from.

Labor force participation rate has been falling since 1999. It wasnt a problem during the Decider term though.

So do I, but I actually care about the plight of others.

Now being a Democrat, you only have to pretend to care, and then go about your life. Look at the difference in charitable giving between the parties.

And Just look at the Worker participation Rate, that also is at a four decade low? Could that be why the claims are down, because so many people don't have jobs.

But, Hey if I was in the position of having to defend the failed policies of President Obama, I would be grasping at straws too.
