Ford Motor Co. wants to resurrect its once-popular Ranger truck in North America and build the midsize pickup at the Michigan Assembly Plant, according to sources with knowledge of Ford’s plans.
The Dearborn automaker has entered contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers with plans to bring the Ranger to the plant in Wayne in 2018, said the sources, who couldn’t speak publicly because of the sensitive nature of the talks. They said the final decision is up for discussion in the talks now underway, and must be agreed to with the union and then Ford’s board of directors.
The Ranger — which would replace the Focus and C-Max after production of those cars likely heads to Mexico — represents the kind of potentially high-profit, high-volume vehicle the union desires and likely would demand before members would ratify any contract proposal. The two sides must agree that the Ranger would be a good fit for the plant and its nearly 4,500 workers. For Ford, the pickup would mark the return to a small — but growing — midsize truck segment that would help it meet stricter fleet-wide fuel economy standards demanded by the federal government.
....
It’s unclear if the Ranger will be the only product brought into the 5 million-square-foot Wayne plant. Five vehicles currently are built there — the Ford Focus, Focus Electric, Focus ST, C-Max Hybrid and C-Max Energi — and workers made about 265,000 vehicles last year. ... Ford in July said it was pulling production (http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2015/07/09/ford-moving-focus-cmax-production/29918789/) of all its vehicles out of Michigan Assembly in 2018, but both the union and automaker have said repeatedly that they expect to avoid shuttering the plant and hope to introduce a new product there.

The Ranger will end up being built in Mexico as well. No one wants a vehicle built by lazy ass union workers. They damn near drove the U.S. Auto manufacturers into bankruptcy. The last American made car I've had was a 1972 Ford Maverick. It was impossible to lose the car, just follow the trail of transmission fluid.

Maybe your problem is with the Chairman and CEO and it's Board Members of Ford, not anyone or everyone who isn't?

Sure.
And when Trump bashes the plant in Mexico he's putting the spotlight on ford executives on behalf of America.

That's... okay. So if you don't support Trump than you're un-American?
For the record, the area of Canada that I am from has a lot of auto manufacturing. They keep getting it from companies like Toyota because they have the infrastructure. They keep getting these jobs over places in the US northeast presumably because the US doesn't have proper infrastructure to ship and move around units. Perhaps this is more of a local issue because the infrastructure from my area that promotes growth in the auto sector is provincial - such as highways (Americans call them freeways, I believe), although federal money does come down to support maintenance and such. I wonder if the US auto sector would be doing better if they improved in that regard? Could that be a complicating factor why jobs are being shipped to other countries, including Canada?

When trump is complaining about a factory in Mexico and cigar attacks trump then cigar is siding with the quislings.
the inability of American liberals to add 2+2 and arrive at 4 is very troubling.
Our (my) country is in deep trouble when so many citizens are unable to think logically.
We have a liberal on another thread who hates corporations.
He blames corporations for moving jobs overseas when it was politicians that created the conditions that forced the jobs to move.

I was once a union worker, unions workers are the same as everyone else. Corporations have made you brain dead, that I call lazy. Our Buicks are quality as were our Pontiacs and our Chevys. And guess what they support America all of America. Weird that anti union stooges like you would buy cars made in foreign unions where healthcare and in the case of Germany college paid for but you whine about Americans. You go ahead and support foreign union workers, I stick with supporting American workers, union or not. See my sig too.

If the same black people who run Detroit are going to take over the nation then all hope is lost.
But thanks to abortion blacks are still only 13% of the population.
how sad that you turn a story about jobs into a racist rant against whites.

That was true in Darrow's day, but not now. Unions are like penicillin. What started out as a great thing has been overused and abused to the point we have caused more problems than we are solving.

Is that a comedy bit? I lazy ass union workers did even a semblance of decent work, the Japanese car companies wouldn't have kicked their collective asses. Only the weak and stupid need a union to talk for them.
