If Smith was unmarried, had no children and did not designate anyone else "Next of Kin", she probably would be. Being his mother however, does not automatically make her Next of Kin.

They are covering up a major screw up. Ambassador Stevens requested more security 600 times in the year before the attack. 600 times, and there is no record of Hillary even speaking with him in over a year,and he answered directly to her. She ignored his pleas, and allowed him to be killed.

That is true, she said on Kelly tonight they told her "she was not immediate family". She is most definately immediate family. His wife is next of kin, but mom is immediate family.
