View Full Version : How can a country hold such different values than it's people?

By and large the American people are supposed to abide by the golden rule, only harm or kill in self defense, not take things that aren't theirs by force and respect other people's boundaries. We should not spy on our neighbors or even be "nosy neighbors" . We should live within our means and never borrow more than we can pay back.
But then our government, the "representatives of the people" show a completely different set of values, not even close to those the people are supposed to live by.
They bomb whole villages in allied territory to kill one supposed "terrorist number two man" repeatedly . Wage war over other countries resources for corporate glory, and possess virtually no sense of boundaries. They are the ultimate "nosy neighbor" spying on evertfuckingbody and hunting down those who would tell you the truth about that .As for living within their means? LMFAO. Not even close and hasn't been for a very , very long time.
How does a "free society" get to such a point and how long can we survive like this?

We have covered this..., the US was put in this position by its allies after WWII. The US did not unilaterally take this role.
As an aside, isolationism will never be a reality in the US.

So we were balless minions with no ability to say NO! Either then or in the 70 freakin years since then? Your defense is that the powerful world cops receiving all the secondary gains were bullied into the job? As Mike Ditka would say "C'mon Man! As for isolationism, I'd settle for non-imperialism for starters.

I think the majority of the people favor less interventionism, but then again it's not like the people's will actually counts

You have to remember tat when you try to introduce reality to donttread it means you're defending whatever it is he's attacking. Anyway, it's completely lost on these people that American lifestyles and attitudes are intimately connected with the actions of our government.

American forces try to a heroic degree to avoid civilian injury and death. Through out our history we have tried to fight "The Enemy" only.
We do need to elect politicians who can better see who the enemy is and who will not be directed by outside interests.

Not even close to true Valley. Come on. Dresden? Hiroshima? Berlin? Drone strikes into countless villages, many in Pakistan which is allied territory? You express a nice sentiment but it simply isn't true and never really was.

It's not about me. You really need to chill the fuck out. You're kind of a kook sometimes. Again, the way our government operates is intimately connect to the lives we lead. That's the reality few Americans (including you) want to face. YOU are complicit to one degree or another.

If you think we can we can provide all our physical needs and safety, right here, you're dreaming we can't even stop the invasion at the border.
We have to see that our friends aboard are secure Or once they are eaten it will be our turn. It may be a lost cause with Mexico but wouldn't you go to Canada's aid and hope they would do the same for us.
England, France, We need strong friends around the world. What if the Crazies said "No more oil for you peepee dontread, wouldn't you want us to see to it you could get to work in the morning.
We have to have friends and we have to see to it no one kills them, with their promise to come to our aid should we need it.
Coming home and closing the door isn't the answer, you wouldn't want us to close the door ether would you?
We need to be in the world, not bullies, but there for our best interests and there for our friends.

Part of the problem is that our lives are TOO connected to the failed way our government operates. We can and should meet our daily needs peacefully and much closer to home. If that's not the way our government works, we need to kick their asses out and install one that will work like that. How's that for "chilled the fuck out?" If not wanting my government to kill for and steal resources we can get peacefully much closer to home makes me a kook, then so be it. But what does preferring the violent solution make you?

We choose not to secure the border, big difference. We choose not to secure it because the current situation provides great secondary gain to the donkephant. Most of the friends you speak of have plenty of military might to defend themselves as long as they also stop their imperialism and terrorist creation. If the threat of terrorist strikes in America was so great as to justify spying on Americans their would be daily bombings from terrorist easily sneaking across our open border. They can't have it both ways.

donttread, we have some agreement, the Spying on Americans, bull in the china shop tactics and such. But we, America, is not stealing oil or anything else from brown people. I would applaud our receiving payment for services with oil or anything we can use. but we don't seem ever to do that.
There are many cases of people, Administrations acting badly, yes, we should throw them out, which ever party.
Question: What's your opinion of the present Admin?
