MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. — A Mecosta man is charged with a felony for obstruction of justice and misdemeanor of tampering with a jury for passing out fliers about jury nullification rights on the sidewalk of the Mecosta County courthouse.

Keith Wood, 39, faces these charges after handing out about 50 fliers on Nov. 24, which the Fully Informed Jury Association (http://fija.org/) wrote, that describe juror rights that are typically not given by judges during jury instructions before a trial.

Wood's Attorney Dave Kallman told FOX 17 the charges are "outrageous," especially after Wood posted bond set at $150,000 last Tuesday. Obstruction of justice is a five-year felony with up to $10,000 in fines, and attempting to influence jurors is a one-year misdemeanor with fines up to $1,000.

Wood told FOX 17 he was speechless.

“When he (the Judge) told me the bond, again I was speechless," said Wood. "$150,000 bond for handing out a piece of paper on a public sidewalk? Speechless.”

Well that sucks. How is informing jurors of their rights a crime?

unless there is more to it the judge is a little too egotistical.......

It makes sense to me, especially if the judge was appointed as a job for the boys rather than for his legal acumen.

Nullification of unjust or unconstitutional laws scares the hell out of the establishment but they have no problem at all with nullifying your rights and stomping you down as an example to you and others.

I'm not endorsing a violent rebellion against certain government entities.

But when stuff like this happens you can't really be surprised when it does.

I wonder if the judge has a protection detail yet?

They are just taking their cue from all the federal judges who make instead of interpret law, all the way up to the Supreme court.

In the case of the guy who was overcharged I think they just want to make his life miserable. He needs to weather the storm and keep doing what he is doing, just do it smarter. As a juror I would not have a problem with using nullification if I truly felt the law was wrong but I would never admit to the fact. I would just say over and over that I didn't think the person was guilty. I'm pretty sure that you don't have to give any reason beyond the prosecution didn't prove their case to your satisfaction. F>>> them and the other jurors if they don't like that answer.

Maryland, Indiana, Oregon and Georgia all have nullification written into their Constitution. New Hampshire passed a law specifically allowing nullification in 2012.

No, what I'm saying is that people tend to get violent when they have been wronged enough times.

This judge could get killed if he doesn't wise up.

Killing judges, or even threatening to, sets a bad precedent. Not everyone is bound to like the judicial decisions that you approve of; I'm sure you wouldn't want to see those judges who make what you consider to be good decisions targeted in that way.

What this judge did is anathema to the present constitution. Only those with a statist agenda could see otherwise.
