View Full Version : Warning: David Brooks on the impending implosion of the GOP
Yeah we know - Republicans tossed their intellectual cons under the bus back in 2010.
But you really should listen to what he has to say.

I Wonder why our Democrat friends and Progressive Republicans like David Brooks are telling us the sky if falling, and yet in the latest Rasmussen and Fox polls, the top 3 GOP contenders that they hate, are all not only beating Hillary, but starting to pull away and in the battle ground states have a pretty good lead.
If only we would nominate someone like Bush, So the Conservatives would stay home. I think they would be happier? I wonder why.

I have an understanding with RINO's like David Brooks.
He does not listen to me or care what conservatives like myself want and I do the same for him.
But Brooks is not new or unknown.
He wants the republican party to be a pale-but-still-liberal imitation of the democrats.
if we listen to brooks America will be in essence a one party state and I dont want that.

Trump is getting all the media attention but he is still losing against Clinton (2.5) in national polls. Cruz is beating Clinton by .6 and Rubio is beating them all by 2.2. I know that the only poll that really matters is election day but I'm still amazed at how the polls show Rubio doing well nationally while the polls restricted to rep nomination show Trump so far ahead.....go figure.

And again, I'd LIKE to see reasonable republicans participate and help shape that process and the products of it, but, if the GOP believes that, in all cases, compromise is a dirty word, then I have no problem shoving them away from the table and doing everything possible to totally marginalize them.

How did I avoid his name? You throw it out there as if the man had ANYTHING to do with the GOP which is laughably stupid and historically ignorant.

an interesting quote from Wiki:
"Abraham Lincoln, the Whig leader in Illinois, was a great admirer of Clay, saying he was "my ideal of a great man." Lincoln wholeheartedly supported Clay's economic programs. In 1957, a Senate Committee selected Clay as one of the five greatest U.S. Senators, along with Daniel Webster, John C. Calhoun, Robert La Follette, and Robert A. Taft."
Abe like the guy a lot. My point was that I doubt that many of today's crop of republicans would agree.

Well, that and the fact that nobody who knows you actually likes you. ;)
Truth Detector pays his plumber to come in and break the pipes.
You remind me of Rachel Madcow; a shrill low information lunatic without the slightest clue of what she erupts about.
But nothing can be dumber than the idea of a responsible functioning Government as defined by whacked out leftist loonies.
Government only functions well at the most base level; administering our laws and defending our borders. That is how the founders, far smarter than anything we can find on the left, intended it.
More presumptuous BS from you; you're quite full of it, and yourself.
Dr. Maddow is a PhD and Rhodes Scholar .. how about yourself?
Maddow was born in Castro Valley, California (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castro_Valley,_California). Her father, Robert B. "Bob" Maddow, is a former United States Air Force (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force) captain (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_(United_States)) who resigned his commission (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Officer_(armed_forces)) the year before her birth and found civilian work as a lawyer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attorney_at_law) for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Bay_Municipal_Utility_District). The meme that our government was created NOT to work is astoundingly vacuous and revisionary.
Indeed, guys like TeaTed and his fellow BagBoys (and their defenders here in tPH) failed to learn the sharing and compromise concept in kindergarten or first grade.
Congress used to work together and get things done. In recent history, Tip and the Gipper/ Clinton and Newt all understood this concept.
Even their boy Trump knows this as a master negotiator. It's one thing to be tough, another to be utterly intransigent.

I NEVER implied that Henry Clay had anything to do with the GOP.
I could have sworn that was what the threat topic was about; sorry for presuming you weren't engaging in your typical off topic thread trolling.
He was not famous for his partisanship in any way.... he was famous for his willingness to transcend it.
Again; there is no point to this bloviating. He was only famous in your mind; most have rarely heard of the man.

Her mother, Elaine Maddow (née Gosse), is a school program administrator.[12] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-cr081105-12)[13] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-gdiv3-13)[14] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-ref09-14) She has one older brother, David. Her paternal grandfather was from an Eastern European Jewish family (the original family surname being "Medwedof"), while her paternal grandmother was of Dutch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_people) (Protestant) background; her mother, originally from Newfoundland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_and_Labrador), Canada, is of English and Irish ancestry.[15] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-huffinpo1-15) Maddow has stated that her family is "very, very Catholic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church)," and she grew up in a community that her mother has described as "very conservative."[16] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-outed-16)[17] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-newsweek1-17)[18] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-xan-18) Maddow was a competitive athlete and participated in three sports in high school: volleyball, basketball, and swimming.[19] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-19) Referencing John Hughes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hughes_(filmmaker)) films, she has described herself as being "a cross between the jock and the antisocial girl" in high school.[18] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-xan-18)
A graduate of Castro Valley High School (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castro_Valley_High_School)[20] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-20) in Castro Valley, California, she attended Stanford University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_University). While a freshman, she was outed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outing) by the college newspaper when their interview with her was published before she could tell her parents.[16] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-outed-16) Maddow earned a degree in public policy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_policy_doctrine) at Stanford in 1994.[21] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-stan9-21) At graduation, she was awarded the John Gardner Fellowship (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_John_Gardner_Fellowship_Program).[22] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-22) She was also the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_Scholarship) and began her postgraduate study in 1995 at Lincoln College (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_College,_Oxford), Oxford (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Oxford). This made her the first openly gay or lesbian American to win an international Rhodes Scholarship.[23] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-afterellen-23) In 2001, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Philosophy) (DPhil) in politics at Oxford University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_University).[24] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#cite_note-chief-24) Her thesis is titled HIV/AIDS and Health Care Reform in British and American Prisons, and her supervisor was Dr. Lucia Zedner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucia_Zedner).
...and even with that, still a brain dead clueless leftist whack job very few, except other whack jobs, pay any attention to.

It doesn't surprise me that you wouldn't be familiar with a nationally known columnist. One has to get past Archie and Jughead to be aware of the bigger picture.
David Brooks is hardly a nationally known columnist; unless of course if one stupidly presumes everyone reads the New York Times. I have rarely even seen any of his columns in the left leaning LA Times.
Being presumptuous is also a common liberal trait. But the notion that David is a Conservative does require the willing suspension of common sense and reality.

One is pretty fucking narrow and isolated if one doesn't know who he is. That's not a surprising fact about many conservatives. That goes hand-in-hand with the self-awareness thing you just spoke of. Except that it's demonstrated by you and your kind. Frequently. Chronically.

#2. His voice can be grating. He knows.
#3. I kinda like this one. Schmuckie Schumer, Little Dick Durbin, Diane Frankenfeinstein, Mashed Potato-face Kerry. Those all work for me.

Once upon a time, the US Constitution was an impediment to the kind of progress you have in mind. Those who "know how to govern" are totalitarian tyrants. You seem very comfortable with tyranny. I look forward to President Trump using the tools that Barack Hussein O used to repair the damage that Barack Hussein O caused.

Much like Limbaugh, Levin uses his air time to present reasoned, rational, passionate defenses for Constitutional constraints on the massive, post-Constitutional tyranny that has been consuming everything in its path for the last one hundred years. Far from being uninformed we are among the most informed. That has to grate.

Know what I'm doing today? I shopped at the local grocery store that has ample supplies of everything I need to cook for and feed my family. And then some. I have a job and savings that I could buy everything I needed.
I just returned from the eye doctor, where I found my eye health is great and much of it was paid for by my health insurance policy.
Right before I begin cooking meals for my immediate and extended family for the week, I'm playing with my dogs as they play with each other. A joy I can't describe.
Within in the next day or do, I'll have a second grandchild, with much of that cost covered by my son's plan. He's a teacher, as is his wife., and take great pride in what they do. Teaching your kids how to read.
This year, I will have been married 40 years.
This is pretty much the scenario that I've enjoyed my entire adult life and I'm 61. There is no tyranny nor despots in my life. There never has been.
Feel free to invent your own.
