Yes, the infamous Fast and Furious gun running scheme of eric holder not only resulted in the death of a US border agent but supplied an anti tank weapon to the mexican drug kingpin.

From the URL:

"A .50 caliber rifle designed to shoot down a helicopter found inside El Chapo (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/el_chapo/index.html)'s Mexican hideout was sold through the government's failed Fast and Furious weapons program, it has been reported.

"The weapon, which typically requires a bipod to be fired because of the extreme recoil, was found inside the property in Los Mochis where the Sinaloa Cartel kingpin was recaptured on January 8."

(My emphasis)

Yah, the Barrett M82 isn't an anti-tank weapon. It's effective against trucks, jeeps, maybe armored cars (shots to the engine compartment) - but it's not rated as an anti-tank weapon. The US Army considers it an anti-material weapon - it'll shoot up cars, trucks, etc. & certainly it'll kill people - but the Army prefers not to emphasize that.

No, it wasn't designed to shoot down a helicopter - someone @ Daily Mail has seen Shooter too often. The rifle is certainly capable, but as I remember the movie, it would have been simpler - & more expedient - to simply shoot the pilot, & let the chopper crash. & (as the comments to the article note), the bipod has nothing to do with recoil. The rifle is simply heavy, & @ the range it shoots, a bipod is necessary to make fine adjustments & hold the weapon on target.

i dont want to quibble over how much or how little damage the rifle can do to a tank.

Needless to say it is a very dangerous weapon that obumer flunkies made avsilable to the mexican drug gangs.

No it isn't. It's a tool, nothing more, nothing less remember? Guns don't kill people, people kill people. If they didn't have a .50 cal they would just find another way right? Cause where there's a will there's a way as was stated earlier today. maybe we should have tested the mental health of the murderous drug dealer, since that's the real reason behind gun violence.

And BTW the damage that rifle can do to a modern tank can be fixed with a can of paint.

That was true by 1942 if not before. The Soviets continued to issue a .57 caliber anti-tank rifle throughout the war largely because it proved effective in penetrating the armor of lighter vehicles, such as armored personnel carriers.

All of that is true.

But felons like el chapo are not allowed to own guns in mexico or the US.

obumer liberals still believe in obeying the law, dont they?

Maximum effective range of the .50 caliber (M-2): line of sight.
