"Sanders assumes $324 billion more per year in prescription drug savings than Thorpe does. Thorpe argues that this is wildly implausible. "In 2014 private health plans paid a TOTAL of $132 billion on prescription drugs and nationally we spent $305 billion," he writes in an email. "With their savingsdrug spending nationally would be negative." (Emphasis mine.) The Sanders camp revised the number down to $241 billion when I pointed this out.One has to wonder how much thought and research went into the Sanders' plan when they proposed savings
on prescription drugs that total more than we currently spend annually."

We can create single payer and have the numbers add up. We know this because most of the other first world countries on earth have already done so.

But Sanders is at a point where he has to be accurate with his facts and figures and not give any ammo to the opposition that refuses to even give him a chance to make his case.

We could save that much if our Skank Drug companies just charged americans what they charge Canadians for the same drugs.

Just think how much we'd save if they charged us what they charge chinese. Our drug companies are full of shit

One of the drawbacks of being a consistent person with discernible principles is that your opponents have actual positions to attack.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, will just say (or not say) whatever she thinks will get her the most votes, so there is nothing substantive to go after.

if by some odd chance he wins the nomination, these numbers will suddenly add up after all.

Thats actually a great point.

The alternative is to claim that your views have "evolved". That is how Hilliary Clinton will try to deflect the criticism. Many people will buy it and even think that shows one is principled.

The UK makes it add up by using accountants. Stop procedures (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/nhs-hit-by-stealth-cuts-of-2bn-as-tariffs-received-for-medical-procedures-are-reduced-10204414.html) when money runs out. Stop feeding patients (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2287332/Nearly-1-200-people-starved-death-NHS-hospitals-nurses-busy-feed-patients.html) when money runs out.
