He shouldn't lose his congressional seat if Obama wins. <shudder>

Not always standard, I just find it a curious strategy considering the implied closeness of the race so far.

It is certainly standard for a politician who is not otherwise ready to retire.

This isn't a loaded question in the sense that I already know the answer, I don't - but did Obama campaign for his senate seat 4 years ago also?

I couldn't tell after a quick google search. I would be surprised if he didn't.

He wasn't up for re-election at that time.
