View Full Version : Why do Republicans make up quotes?

Poor Dr. Ben. Somebody needs to slip that man a 5 hour energy and fact-check his quotes prior to every debate.

“Joseph Stalin said if you want to bring America down you have to undermine three things: our spiritual life, our patriotism and our morality,” Carson said. But as the fact-checking website Snopes.com finds (http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/undermine.asp), there’s no evidence Stalin ever said anything of the sort.

I'm saying it's not false because a couple of liberals with an agenda say it is. I've read plenty of quotes by Stalin, Lenin and other former Soviet leaders. The quote in question certainly resembles other things they've said.

I also understand that the American left has always gone to the mat in an attempt to soften the comments and show some support for those past Soviet leaders. Why? I have no idea.

Also, liberals have a tendency to claim someone made up a quote if the person reviving the quote uses the word "if" in the quote when the word actuall used was "of". They can take something completely trivial and elevate it into a huge deal.

A fanatic's world is similar to that of a schizophrenic's: both construct closed and internally-consistent realities. Orwell pointed this out, in 1984 and elsewhere. All external facts get filtered through a carefully constructed latticework of self-referential assumptions and dogmas.

I always recommend that sane people, puzzled by the behavior of fanatics (on both ends of the spectrum) read this:

I believe there's one big difference between Carson and Obama.

Carson is extremely intelligent and does not seem to have an overinflated ego. I'm sure he knows his strengths and weaknesses and would surround himself with people he selected with that in mind. He's secure enough to appoint people who have more experience and expertise in areas where he has little to none.

Obama is not nearly as intelligent and is an ego-maniac. He doesn't believe he has any weaknesses. If you asked him to explain what his weaknesses are, he'd probably say that his weakness are the fault of others. He micro manages and can't delegate because he respects no authority other than his own.

It's not just the Soviets. Sane people also have a problem with the myriad of fake quotes from conservatives attributed to the Founding Fathers.

Google "fake founding father quotes." There's close to a million hits. Are they ALL part of the Vast Left Wing Conspiracy? (Yee, it sounded just as lame when Hillary said it about the right.) Here's one:

Another Fake Founders Quote that conservatives love. Thomas Jefferson never said (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.monticello.org%2Fsite% 2Fjefferson%2Fdemocracy-will-cease-to-exist-quotation&t=NTM3NDIzZDczYWU4ODE0NGQwNTYwYmNmZWE3ZTJiMzM3NzRh ZjRhYixVOHJOV2YyYw%3D%3D) “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” But that doesn’t stop the good folks at Patriot Depot (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fpatriotdepot.com%2Fdemocra cy-will-cease-to-exist-t-shirt-gray%2F&t=MTg1NzJiMzc5OGFmMWVhZTE0YjAzNmFlODU5ZTU4ODFiZGU5 MzFiYixVOHJOV2YyYw%3D%3D) from selling this T-shirt, though perhaps the suspect provenance of the quote explains why the shirt has been marked down to $16.95 from the original $26.95 list price. Having been debunked multiple (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Ffair.org%2Fextra-online-articles%2Fthe-rights-library-of-fake-quotes%2F&t=MGQ1M2VkOWFmNzJmY2NiNjAyNzg1NjQ5OTA1ZDAzNTFkZjI1 YWNkMyxVOHJOV2YyYw%3D%3D) times (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.businessinsider.com%2F thomas-jefferson-quotes-that-were-actually-just-made-up-2013-9&t=YzllNmYwNTFmYWI1ZGE1OGIzNmYwOWFmNGJmMTFjOTI1ZWNi ZWEwYixVOHJOV2YyYw%3D%3D) also hasn’t stopped people from buying this bumper sticker (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.zazzle.com%2Fjefferson _the_democracy_will_cease_to_exist_bumper_sticker-128402498697656832&t=NjNmZWJiYmM5MWJkYWUzYTBhMzFhZjZmMmJlZTVmMmFhNDk5 YWJhMyxVOHJOV2YyYw%3D%3D), printed with “water-resistant ink that won’t fade or run.”

http://40.media.tumblr.com/9bd4e35a13322635748f417e93b5ca1c/tumblr_n7iet1rZSx1tf3egko1_500.png

Interestingly, the first time this quote appeared in print seems to be in a 1986 book by a guy named John Galt. Galt is the name of a character in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged (1957). The disciples of Ayn Rand are some of the worst offenders when it comes to attributing their own, 20th century ideas to the founders. I would speculate that the rise of Rand-ian libertarianism on the blogosphere might partially explain the proliferation of fake founders quotes in the past ten years.

I've got one of our forum members(ewe)....who is going to vote for Bernie Sanders(a committed socialist)...trying to deflect the attention from your free sh!t offering candidate to a man who was President 7 years ago. I don't take you seriously although.....do have a little sympathy for you due to having to take so much sh!t for not voting for Hillary.

TrueBlue and a few others here offering their dislike for your candidate, they're both utter jokes and why you're posting pics of Bush.

Do you have the ability to respond to the actual content of a post?

I'd say no.

Your post isn't content. It's Bush distractions in an attempt to keep us from focusing on your candidate......who currently trails Clinton by huge margins in SC. Bush won his primary in SC as I recall. How will Sanders do?

Oops

Oops

Bernie is within the margin of error nationally and she slips another notch every week or two.

No, he can't win in SC but he can in a slew of other states.

Sanders can win in a few more, but not enough to give him the nomination.

I do notice them getting a tad savage with each other, Sanders even going as far as to call one of her remarks a 'low blow.' A sexist remark we can interpret on our own.

Don't count Free Sh!t out yet, Bo! He's been to see Rev Al......he's bowing and crowing about how great Obama is......claiming Hillary the only one between them who has run against Obama. He's slobberin and cowtowing and out there with all his young sycophants swaying to the breeze, bet he cannot wait for the Colorado Primary. Light em up, Sanders! Feel the Bern :biglaugh:

Enough votes from constituents he seems to have......enough Superdelegates he seems to lack.

Hillary had a whopping lead in SD's over Obama in 2008.

Remember what happened? :)

Thats a big part of it, but Sanders is not going to get a lot of support in the south, southwest, Midwestern farm states and the western mountain states. He will win the uber left wing vote on the west coast.

Can you explain this, Bo?

The vote count was 60-38 in favor of Sanders, but with Hillary's superdelegate fix, it's a 15-15 tie. And she could still win the delegate count in New Hampshire as two of the superdelegates are undecided.

I never heard that quote. Is this as popular as dominosim?

perhaps I did not ask my question clearly. Yes or no, are you claiming that what Carson said is true?

You are not going to get a straight answer from the "distinguished, straight-talking, and erudite gentleman."

There, I didn't call names.
