View Full Version : Right Wing Myth That Obama "Skips Daily Intel Briefings"

About the same time, the Republican National Committee and prominent Republicans such as Dick Cheney and John McCain threw another faulty bit of plumbing at Obama: that the president ‘does not attend his daily intelligence meeting’ more than half the time, in contrast to George W. Bush, who ‘almost never missed his daily intelligence meeting.’ This claim was the work of former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen, who writes a weekly online column for The Washington Post.

In reality, Obama didn’t ‘attend’ these meetings, because there were no meetings to attend: The oral briefings had been mostly replaced by daily exchanges in which Obama reads the materials and poses written questions and comments to intelligence officials. This is how it was done in the Clinton administration, before Bush decided he would prefer to read less.

Bush’s results — Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, and the failure to find Osama bin Laden — suggest this was not an obvious improvement.

LOL, Obama doesn't attend the daily briefings because he's on the campaign trail. If you've ever paid attention to his OFFICIAL daily schedule (which I've followed since 2009)... you'll note the days he does receive the briefing, it's listed in his OFFICIAL WH SCHEDULE.

Otherwise, it doesn't happen... no matter what he says.

This was reported first in a left wing bird cage liner wasn't it?

Complete fabrication...

The charge was based on Obama's own logs....the meetings were offered, he went golfing.

The myth here is whatever it is you're shoveling.

He reads his briefings while riding in his golf cart.

he uses the backs of the briefings for finagling his golf score.

He reads his briefings while riding in his golf cart.Yes according to some of his close aides, he just reads notes he is just too smart to waste his time actually talking to the leaders of various departments and generals. I mean you really think that going to meetings is better then golfing? I really don't know, I don't golf but hey that is what they are saying.

There are daily briefings...Obama has missed 2/3 of them...too busy...of course 100 of them he missed because of golf...maybe a bathhouse or two in the mix, but who can say. I heard this on the radio this morning.

Cigar is counting golf outings as intelligence briefings.

Obama doesn't show up for work before 10 am. By then, the only briefing he's interested in is what's for lunch.

I've heard from day one that he rarely attends ANY meetings. The OP isn't lying about that... he prefers to have 'notes' passed to him to review later. When it's too cold to play golf and nothing interesting is on ESPN. Otherwise, he prob passes the notes off to ValJar and she tells him what he thinks about everything.

Ah, cut the guy some slack. He's a full time paid White House flak...

which is really scary considering his intelligence level...
