It's a new year, so I've decided to change up the format on my seasonally-updated favorite games list, which is why I'm posting it on this new thread. I wanted it to be more digestible this time around, so I've decided to simplify it to just include my top pick for each year, plus maybe a random bonus list or two per season, just to keep things semi-interesting. I won't list the systems this time either, since it's not really meaningful when you consider that most of these games are available on many different platforms today. It's also worth noting that I'm currently collecting games from the early 1980s, so future versions of this list may expand to include early '80s games. Anyway, here you go!

I can't remember favorite games from every year, so I'll just post the years I'm pretty sure about:

1985: Super Mario Brothers
1989: Tetris (agree, played that A LOT)
1990: Xexyz
1991: Super Mario World
1992: Super Mario Kart
1994: FFIII (agree, probably my second favorite game of all time behind FFVII)
1997: Final Fantasy VII (agree, my favorite game of all time)

Honorable mentions:

1991: Super Ghouls and Ghosts
1992: Bulls vs. Blazers (was one of the only games that actually had Michael Jordan in it for many years - probably my favorite gaming "bonus" of all time)
1994: Donkey Kong Country; Super Metroid ; Earthbound
1997: Harvest Moon

This is not the definitive or exhaustive list. I'll refine and add to it as I remember things.

I'll look forward to it! Anyway, on the picks so far, good list! Xexyz was an especially clever choice. That was a fun game. :highfive:

Hmmm...six months after writing the OP, my list from those years remains unchanged, so I'll leave that part be. However, I do have an update on my expanding collection of games from the pre-1985 era and now feel reasonably confident to add my favorites from the earliest years of home gaming:

Favorite Pre-1985 Games By Year

1977: Surround <-- This is basically Tron as an actual, primitive video game! :cool2:
1978: Adventureland
1979: Adventure
1980: Zork I
1981: zork II: The Wizard of Frobozz
1982: Zork III: The Dungeon Master
1983: Kangaroo <-- Donkey Kong, but with a female hero and a child (your joey) in distress. The first truly feminist game.
1984: Sorcerer

Hmmm...how else can I add enough value to this post to make it worth your while to read? Well, maybe I'll update the current decade's list to include not just my top pick, but my top three by year:

Favorite Three Games From the 2010s By Year

2011:

1) To the Moon
2) Portal 2
3) Sword & Sworcery EP

2012:

1) Papo & Yo
2) Thomas Was Alone
3) Spec Ops: The Line

Pokemon Go Might Lengthen Your Life
October 11, 2016 - Forget fitness trackers and fitness apps.

Researchers say the augmented reality game Pokemon Go could have added 2.83 million years of life expectancy by simply getting people off the couch to hunt for virtual monsters. The study was done by Microsoft Research and found that Pokemon Go players, on average, increased the number of steps they took by 26 percent, with the most sedentary benefiting the most. Looked at another way, that’s 194 more steps per day taken, or roughly 160 meters.

When totaled, researchers said cumulatively, the roughly 25 million Pokemon Go-playing Americans took 144 billion more steps or the equivalent of 143 round trips to the moon. Activity increases were seen among genders, ages, weight and general levels of health.

A Pokemon Go player consults his phone while walking through the Boston Common outside the Massachusetts Statehouse. The game has introduced players to some aspects of history they otherwise might have missed.

The researchers say that since activity lowers mortality, all the extra activity from Pokemon Go could mean 2.83 million more years of life expectancy. Players who take 1,000 steps per day could lengthen their lives by 41.4 days.

The one downside of the study is that interest in the game appeared to have peaked in the summer. Less interest and colder weather could reduce the number of players sharply. The study was posted in the Cornell University Library.

Did they happen to factor in the people who've wandered into the street while playing that game and been hit by a car?
