What Trump has wrought

Pat Buchanan: Candidate unleashed 'the mightiest force of the 21st century: nationalism'

As Wisconsinites head for the polls, our Beltway elites are almost giddy. For they foresee a Badger State bashing for Donald Trump, breaking his momentum toward the Republican nomination.

Should The Donald fall short of the delegates needed to win on the first ballot, 1,237, there is growing certitude that he will be stopped. First by Ted Cruz; then, perhaps, by someone acceptable to the establishment, which always likes to have two of its own in the race.

But this city of self-delusion should realize there is no going back for America. For, whatever his stumbles of the last two weeks, Trump has helped to unleash the mightiest force of the 21st century: nationalism.

Transnationalism and globalism are moribund.

First among the issues on which Trump has triumphed...

Think so? What Trump has riled up is the 25% of radicals that constitute the GOP Base. Put this guy in the general election and the Goldwater election will look like a squeaker.

The big issue this time is who can help the middle class and that is not the GOP.

Totally agree with you on Trump's base. But it is a long time until the general election. Here's what I think may happen: Trump nails the nomination... and suddenly surrounds himself with a brain trust. These would be "serious people," probably some mavericks, with lots of bullet points on their resumes.

Think about FDR's "Brain Trust" and people like William Knudsen and Henry Kaiser.

Remember, Trump is actually not a conservative. What is is is a populist, who picked the Republicans because there was one issue that he could hammer on and get a wide range of support: illegal immigration. THAT he will give them; yes, he will build that wall, and boot out a lot of illegals.

I think he will betray them on everything else.

http://www.wnd.com/2016/04/what-trump-has-wrought/Buchannen, like Trump is xenphobic, bigoted. Unlike Trump...he CAN elegantly explain it in ways with SOME logic and justification. I ALSO want the USA to have SOLID trade deals. Still......I smell something. You can have a great sales pitch but... the bottom line is you are selling a car that is due to get scrapped.

Pat and me won't often agree, but as far apart as our point of views are, our ideology is.. We at times ain't so apart. I DO have concerns about the huge trade gap, about the sucky trade deals that got exploited in bad ways. Why I care.. and Buchannan, or Trump cares.. NOT the same.

When it comes to various Trade deals.... the CENTER seems happy as hell. The Left, the far right...is against it. It's really unique. Most issues the alignment is Right/Left. On THIS....the normal ain't in play. The Farther left or Right.. has issues. The Centrist/Moderates are who PUSHED it. The thing is you can OBJECT for different reasons. I want AVERAGE Americans able to get a factory job MAKING stuff. Trump? Hates foreigners. THAT is ONE thing Trump made perfectly clear. Bucannan.. also hates foreigners but DOES see Working class Americans as a factor.

He Brags on OUTCOMES ....most of which I doubt he can do. I could Brag about being ultra wonderful ad I'll do this and that.... if I can't even SAY how I'd do all the stuff....it's just a scam.
Assuming the GOP machine guys can't pull the rug out from under Trump, he's got BIG negatives. That makes him a fat target in any general election.

Stop the xenophobia meme. Neither Trump nor Buchanan are xenophobes and people who make that claim look like uneducated fools.

This is what seems to be lost on many... All the Trumpetism... is really only a small segment of one party. People forget that approximately only 20% of registered voters bother to vote in the primary, and those are usually the most radical and noisiest people. The General is when the real behemoth comes out.. and most normal people... even those that vote Republican.. hate trump

Up to 20% of the registered democrats are crossing over for Trump.

Rethink the hate meme. It is over used.

It's true that there is a lot of animosity toward Trump -- there's a lot toward Hillary, too, so the GOP is not all alone in that feeling.

The interesting thing is that we've been getting reports of Dems (in large numbers) switching to the GOP to vote for The Donald in primaries and caucuses.

I haven't heard of the reverse happening for Hillary.

The real reason Trump is getting so many early votes is because the people voting for him are sick of the status quo establishment.

If Trump loses -- and he very well could -- something has been awakened in this nation that very likely won't go back to sleep quietly.

ONLY because they believe that Clinton will have the easiest time beating him...

Wrong... as I said.. Democrats are playing games in the open primaries. wanting to ensure that Trump gets the nomination because they know Clinton can beat him... They fear Cruz more.. He is a menace and an anathema to our policies. I even thought of voting for Trump in our open primary.... but just couldn't get myself to push the button.. lol!! I think my finger would have rotted off.

I understand you *hope* that's the case -- but I have yet to see any real evidence that it is.

The blue collar democrats are not voting for "NAFTA Clinton" over Trump.
