When I was selling books on Amazon, I got hold of lots of Scientology material, including some marked "Official Eyes Only" that had belonged to their "Ethics Committee" (Scientology-speak for what I can only describe as Scientology's secret police, espionage and enforcement arm). Unless you have studied these people, you have no freaking idea how weird and scary they are. Check out the info about Operation Snow White:

"Operation Snow White was the Church of Scientology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Scientology)'s internal name for a major criminal conspiracy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_conspiracy) during the 1970s to purge unfavorable records about Scientology and its founder L. Ron Hubbard (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._Ron_Hubbard). This project included a series of infiltrations and thefts from 136 government agencies, foreign embassies and consulates, as well as private organizations critical of Scientology, carried out by Church members, in more than 30 countries.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White#cite_note-1) It was one of the largest infiltrations of the United States government in history,[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White#cite_note-Double_Crossed-2) with up to 5,000 covert agents."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White

As regards the current infiltration of the Republicans, I have a sneaking suspicion that the below is only the tip of the iceberg....

Florida Rep. David Jolly wants to take Marco Rubio’s seat in the Senate. Unfortunately for him, he also has a long history of ties to the Church of Scientology (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/10/16/scientology-could-get-its-own-senator.html). Which is why his campaign has been hard at work scrubbing Jolly’s Wikipedia page of any mention to the elaborate pyramid scheme of a religion, it recently confirmed to BuzzFeed News (http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/florida-senate-campaign-admits-to-scrubbing-candidates-wikip#.hvmY9e4wj).

Jolly’s current district in Florida includes the Flag Service Organization, which is the “spiritual headquarters of Scientologists planetwide (http://www.scientology.org/faq/the-organization-of-scientology/what-is-flag.html)” and the group’s largest church. And the candidate for Senate has been happy to make full use of Scientology’s ample funds, accepting donations from “an infamous Scientologist doctor” as well as attending “rallies and fundraisers thrown by the church,” according to The Daily Beast (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/10/16/scientology-could-get-its-own-senator.html).

None of this is particularly conducive to a national election, however, and speaking to BuzzFeed (http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/florida-senate-campaign-admits-to-scrubbing-candidates-wikip#.hvmY9e4wj), a spokesperson for Jolly admitted that “the campaign removed references to Jolly’s past career as a lobbyist, his association with the Church of Scientology, his support for same sex marriage, and political contributions he made to Democratic candidates.”

Jolly’s campaign insists that they were merely correcting edits that had been made by a “rival campaign,” although who this rival campaign was and how they had the foresight to make these additions over a year ago remains unclear.

You can see examples of the rather extensive edits, which were made on March 15 (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Jolly&diff=prev&oldid=713549562)and April 4 (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Jolly&diff=prev&oldid=710112293), below.

Cults are fascinating things, they range from simple to highly complex and the follower must always follow and believe unconditionally. I think libertarianism in America is a kinda cult, see link below. The republicans have certainly used cult like tactics, consider only their use of words. Say taxes, inner city, food stamps, welfare, or any other number of words to a republican audience and the meme sticks. No need for deep and thoughtful analysis, the follower knows.

"The main hypothesis concerning group-think is this: the more amiability and espirt de corps among the members of an in-group of policymakers the greater the danger that independent critical thinking will be replaced by groupthink, which is likely to result in irrational and the dehumanizing actions directed at out-groups." "Nobody ever joins a cult. One joins a nonprofit group that promotes green technology, animal rights, or transcendental meditation. One joins a yoga class or an entrepreneurial workshop. One begins practicing an Eastern religion that preaches peace and forbearance. The first rule of recruitment, writes Margaret Singer, the doyenne of cult scholarship, is that a recruit must never suspect he or she is being recruited."

The thing about this is, though, it probably belongs more in the realm of "conspiracy theories" than anything deserving of legitimate attention.

Cults abound everywhere, and the commune-type fall squarely into the more liberal side of the spectrum.

Occasionally, someone in one of these fringe groups will rise a bit on the political scale -- that's not unusual -- but they rarely make it any further.

From what I've seen and read Scientology is an equal opportunity 'infiltrator', assuming that's the proper word to use.

Infiltrator: a person who secretly becomes part of a group

Absolutely! The prior comment about supporting mainly Democrats misses the point. It has the flavor of a standard Pavlovian response: ring the bell of asking an uncomfortable question, and get the expected salivatory response.

The listed donations to Democratic candidates (which, unless I misread the CityData post, was actually Republicans) is the support that was discovered. Operation Snow White infiltrated "up to 5,000 people" into employment positions in various levels of government, including the IRS. Is it plausible that they have done the same with both of our major political parties? Whether you are a D or an R, it is probably a rather important thing to find out.

In other words, "Oh L@@K! Over THERE! Shiny!"

There are several things of interest in your citation. Readers prone to quick, superficial takes on info, please slow down, pay attention, and think:

(1) the link is to a post of some random guy, named Egbert, who is re-posting a copypasta list that some other random guy, Finn_Cool, posted on the site.

(2) None of the items on the list have any support links. Based on just this list, there is actually ZERO verified information there.

(3) Egbert's statement that "A bunch of those are Republican I will highlight the ones I know off the top of my head and those are just the ones I know I would bet the rest are Republican also." The highlighted ones are, I guess, the red ones. Based simply on uncritical belief of the words presented, this list then actually shows the reverse of your assertion that Scientology favors Democrats.

In fact, on further thought, Scientology infiltration of the Republican Party would explain a lot.

Russian security forces raid Church of Scientology
June 7, 2017 -- The Russian Federal Security Bureau raided a Church of Scientology office in St. Petersburg, calling it an effort to uncover information about religious extremism.

"Searches are being conducted in connection to the criminal case concerning illegal entrepreneurship, incitement to hatred and the establishment of an extremist association," a source told the Russian news agency, TASS. The raid comes about one year after the FSB raided several locations in St. Petersburg connected to the Church of Scientology due to allegations of "illegal business dealings." The Russian government has previously ruled that, because it is not recognized as a religion, proselytizing is a form of money laundering. The church, a controversial religious group founded in the United States that is derided by some as a cult, has long been at legal odds with the Russian government.

Police during a search of the premises by investigators at Scientology Church In Moscow last June.

In 2015, a Moscow court ruled that the group cannot be considered a religion because its name is trademarked in the United States and prohibited it from engaging in its religious activities. "When decisions like this are handed down, actually everyone loses, and this decision affects not only the Church of Scientology of Moscow. This decision is a sign of disease in the justice system," the group's Moscow branch said in a statement. But the legal entanglements go back even further.

According to court documents from the International Center for Non-Profit Law, the Church of Scientology first opened its doors in Russia in 1994. But in 1998, the Moscow Justice Department required religious organizations to re-register with the government and refused to grant the Church of Scientology its religious organization status. Since then, there has a steady back and forth of legal pushes between the two entities and the Church of Scientology is now considered an "extremist" group by the Russian government. In April, Russia's Supreme Court outlawed Jehovah's Witnesses, declaring that an extremist organization and banned its 175,000 adherents from congregating on Russian territory.
