Saturday marks what could prove to be a career-defining victory for young welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, 24, or merely the latest notch on the diamond-encrusted platinum belt that we imagine Floyd Mayweather Jr., 34, wears on trips to the hardware store. In arguably the biggest boxing card of 2011, both men -- along with some interesting undercard fighters -- can make a grand impression while the world (ticket buyers and pay-per-view customers among us, at least) is watching. Our panel of ESPN.com experts offers its take on how fight night will play out.....snip~

I think Mayweather is going to win and use this to go onto fight Pac-Man. Hard to believe this guys end up being broke after some of those big pay-days.

Mayweather has a big gambling problem -- I've seen his twitter posts (course he only posts when he wins). I think he will win again but he keeps fighting chumps, eventually he will lose. IMO he has been ducking PacMan for a long time out of fear and it is pathetic. Can you tell I am not a Mayweather fan? :D Im; surprised he's not in jail after all his recent trouble. Oh well...at least it's a fight.

Ortiz got knocked down twice in his last fight...who would pay $60 for this? You gotta be desperate for a fight...boxing isn't what it used to be :-\

Yeah and they always want people to pay for their fights. Now with MMA and UFC. I think Boxing is starting to lose it's appeal.

Yeah I watch more MMA than boxing these days. UFC just signed a contract with Fox so the next big fight is going to be on free TV. Pretty sweet!

Great find! Thanks for posting it. Now having said that...

Holy @#$% !!

I wouldn't have believed it if you told me.

That was more like a scripted wrestling match than a boxing fight.

WOW!!

"Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) did not have a lot of time to celebrate and was soon questioned about what had happened by HBO's Larry Merchant during an in-ring interview.

"He did something dirty," Mayweather said. "His corner said I was dirty, and he did something dirty. All along, his corner was saying I was dirty, but I won the fight."

At that point Mayweather's interview with Merchant degenerated. Mayweather began to get into Merchant's face, saying, "I'm going to do you a favor and let you talk to Victor Ortiz, because you've never given me a fair shake. You ain't s---."

"If I was 50 years younger, I would kick your ass," Merchant, 80, said back to him before turning to Ortiz."

As much as I hate Mayweather I didn't see anything wrong with the knockout. They touched gloves and it was time to fight. Ortiz didn't defend himself. That guy seems to have a screw loose even by boxing standards. I think he was really hurting Mayweather there in the 4th, it could have beena a great fight and gone a lot longer.

I watched the whole fight.....Mayweather did just what the experts said he was going to do. He looked good really. If you notice tho Ortiz was pressuring but not really getting any shots off. I think he was getting frustrated on the tip that he couldn't hit Mayweather with any clean shots.

That head-butt was totally deliberate. But you are right the Ref touched them up and Ortiz was explainin and the Next thing you know.

Did they say if he was going to fight Pac-Man next?

Nah...he is too much of a puss

One thing I don't get is people saying this is a black mark on Mayweather. He wasn't the punk in this fight. I don't think he did anything wrong. Even after the first punch Ortiz didn't defend himself, he turned to the ref to try to get his help...then that second punch and that was all she wrote.

The instructions are protect yourself at all times!

More from Larry...I respect him more after this

Merchant was asked what he thought set off Mayweather.

"I'm in a long line of media people that he feels have not given him as much credit as he gives himself," Merchant said. "The fans saw what they saw: A sucker-punch ending a fight. Now, was Mayweather within his rights to throw it? Absolutely. Should he have? In my opinion, no. It was a legal blow, but that's not the way great champions do it. And the kid, Ortiz, has blame on him as well.

Merchant is so full of himself. ALI, Forman, Smokin Joe, Marciano, Sugar Ray, Hagler, Hitman Hearns. All of them would have taken that punch. Especially after getting a deliberate head butt. Merchant is talkin out his azz. I would have told him tell ya what pops. They can tie my one arm behind my back and I will still blaze your old azz. Then tell him he might want to switch over to WWE Smackdown.

Yeah he is wrong about it being a sucker punch.

Still Money disrespected him and Larry said f you ya young punk.

Course Merchant did also admit that if he was 50 years younger he (Larry) would have gotten his azz beat by Money. But he didn't take no chit and for me that is a plus. Money crossed a line but it wasn't in the fight.
