President Obama and his acolytes continue to proclaim that Mitt Romney wishes to increase the tax burden on middle-class families.

Certainly, it is a devastating accusation.

But is it true?

From Stephen Ohlemacher of the Associated Press:

The Crossroads GPS ad...disputes a claim by Obama that Romney's tax plan would raise taxes on middle-class families by $2,000. Obama made the claim in his speech at the Democratic National Convention, and his campaign makes it again in its own ad.

Obama's claim relies on a study by the Tax Policy Center, a research group formed by two Washington think tanks: the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution. Their study, however, is far more nuanced than Obama's claim.

The study analyzes Romney' plan to reform the tax code in a way that reduces income tax rates by 20 percent, maintains tax breaks for investment income, eliminates the estate tax and the alternative minimum tax, and pays for it all by eliminating or reducing unspecified tax credits, deductions and exemptions. The goal would be a simpler tax code that raises the same amount of money as the current system, but does it in a more efficient manner.

Romney says his plan wouldn't raise taxes on anyone. But the study concludes it wouldn't be possible for Romney to meet all of his stated goals without shifting some of the tax burden from people who make more than $200,000 to people who make less.

In one scenario, the study says, Romney's proposal could result in a $2,000 tax increase for families who make less than $200,000 and have children. (Bold added)

So, "the study" by two left-leaning think tanks has concluded that Mitt Romney's proposed tax reforms would require a middle-class tax hike of about $2,000 per family in order to remain revenue neutral.

Never mind that Gov. Romney has consistently opposed a tax increase on any group of Americans--including the middle class.

They know that most won't do the math. They want to instil this in the minds of the middle-class. Votes are what they are after. Most people polled in the last election thought Obama didn't mess up about how many states, they all thought Palin did. Laughing but when they found out they were wrong, it didn't matter anymore.

Obama is all about taxes. Remember Obamacare? Regulations are hidden taxes too.

It's not only misinformation from the Obama campaign but deliberate dissemination of the same from the Obama supporting press. Even before his election in 2008 Obama made it very clear that he ultimately intended to dramatically raise taxes down to the $50,000 per year family income level . . . and was halted in this ultimate goal only by the Republicans in Congress. But the media ignores that fact in favor of the fantasy that Romney desires to raise taxes on the middle class. So it goes.

Dairy farmers have more concern for their cows than President Obama does for the taxpayers he's milking. How many thousands of IRS agents are in the Unaffordable Care Act? And the IRS has promised they won't be going after people who don't buy the mandated insurance.

Sound Bytes, sound bytes...we are a nation of sound bytes and the ignorant haven't time to pay attention to details, it just gets in the way of "the game".
