Back in the "Ike" days you had to be 21 to vote. Things change. We could put a political sticker on the car without anyone damaging our car. Dad had a "I LIKE IKE" sticker on our 51 Buick. Later when Nixon ran, Dad said "there is no way I am putting a sticker on my car for Nixon". Can you imagine someone driving around with a stick on the bumper "I LIKE DICK".

I believe we should change the voting age to 25 for anyone not serving in the military.

I believe we should change the voting age to 25 for anyone not serving in the military. I served but 21 was ok, 18 might be too young. I think one needs to actually at least taste life a bit before making decisions of that magnitude. I know the argument, "if you're old enough to die in war you should be able to vote." That may of had some validity when we drafted but today's military is voluntarily.

I could entertain that idea.

I wonder how many people would agree to putting the same limits on gun ownership as voting....

As a tot I ran around the house and neighborhood shouting my "I LIKE IKE" pin. My dad, a Blue Dog Democrat, liked him.

I think the privilege of voting should, like rights, be limited, more limited than age, limited to something like you have stake in the game, you risk something as a citizen, as, say, a property owner, own a business, are military or other service, as examples. Yea, I know, that will get some shrieks.

Actually the limits to gun ownership are way more restrictive than voting.

Don't confuse her with facts.

Do you remember the bumper sticker: "I Miss IKE, Hell, I Even Miss Harry!"

I too have voted from the day I was first able to. However, I may not, depending on the political juggling, not vote in the next federal election.

AZ Jim, You guys had a pretty new car, at that time we had a 36 Ford Sedan. Up from the Model A, I have the 30 Model A coup downstairs.

I've stopped voting for those reasons.

We could use a coupé in DC!

We now know our brains do not fully form until about age 25. We should not have serious adult responsibilities until we recognize there are consequences to our actions.

It could be as simple as being a net taxpayer for the level of government you are voting for. In addition to being aged 25 years or more it is my belief that the ones who pay should be the ones who play.

Actually, I believe it might be appropriate to develop a test which one needs to pass in order to vote. Too many idiots are voting these days.

IMO, the voting age should be 18 with an exception: if you're under 25, you have to be working and paying taxes.

You should be paying federal income tax in order to vote. Period.

That would cut the voting pool by 49%. Then we could grow this economy without dumb ass policies stalling the economy.

Not fair!

20-Somethings and sub 20-Somethings may not know who Ike was or who is vice president today but other than that they know it all and want to select the next socialist leader of America.

Good idea.

citizens collecting the unEarned Income Tax Credit, food stamps, Section 8 housing or medicaid should not vote.

When wards of the State get to vote, they vote for more government assistance.

Why not make that universal?

That would be a simple criteria, bring voting card and tax form. :D
