Ringo Starr cancels North Carolina concert in protest over anti-LGBT law

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/apr/13/ringo-starr-cancels-concert-north-carolina-protest-anti-lgbt-law

"The former Beatles drummer said in a statement: “I’m sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred. Spread peace and love.”

"Describing the law as bigotry, Starr said of the legislators: “How sad that they feel this group of people cannot be defended.”

"Starr and Springsteen are not the only performers to have canceled gigs in response to anti-LGBT legislation in the south. On Sunday, Bryan Adams pulled a show in Biloxi, Mississippi (http://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/apr/11/bryan-adams-cancels-mississippi-tour-date-protest-of-anti-lgbt-law), over a new law that allows religious groups and some private business to refuse to serve gay people."

============================
Thanks to The Guardian for this report.

Imho, Ringo and other celebrities are putting their foot down in protest of North Carolina's bigotry and discrimination law. Cirque du Soleil and many others have also decided not to go there due to this bad law. Many other important performers are thinking of not going either which should teach that state a lesson in not pushing for laws that divide its people instead of treat them with respect and dignity. KUDOS to Ringo and the rest for their stance on this issue!

Just more hypocrisy. Starr has performed in Russia where indeed there are anti-gay laws that forbid things such as gay pride rallies. Those laws have been in effect for quite some time but apparently they aren’t a problem for Starr.

Depends (as usual)..,

If it's in regards to Obama, praise be to Putin...
If it's in regards to Reagan, USA, USA, USA!

I'd expect all these boycotters/cancelers to practice what they preach.

Everything I've posted is true. If these enternainers and corporations want to talk the talk then pointing out they're not walking the walk is very fair game.

howard was great about 30 years ago.

He was a kazoo blowing morning jock 30 years ago.

His prime time was around 15 or so years ago.

His show is still good, better than most on the radio.

Kinda two week old news and Ringo is probably the least talented of the artists that cancelled concerts in NC.

Fuck 'em (NC) -- they are dying and will continue to do so.

He's a good interviewer, even now. He's one of the few radio guys anymore who actually prepares for the interview. And he doesn't ask softball questions.

I dont remember asking for your opinion.

in terms of numbers of records sold, number of weeks and how many releases at #1, international fame, and enduring legacy the Beatles are far greater than the two groups you mentioned.

I'm sure that - as far as cultural opinions go - you don't believe that malarky that the majority is always right. Hey, most of the the nation wants legalized marijuana. Does that mean that this is automatically right?
