The onboard desalinization systems that take salt out of seawater to make it drinkable, were taking-in radioactive water from the ocean for the crew to drink, cook with and bath-in, before anyone realized there was a massive radiation spill into the ocean.

Before it's over we will have polluted everything on earth!

You never know how important some of the most basic things in live are, until they taken away from you.

Like Water ...

Oh no- that's awful.

The navy has been trying to cover that up. And Japan is trying to cover up the sickness there.

Before it's over we will have polluted everything on earth!Other than in the very short term do you think the destruction of Fukushima has had an impact?

Then you'll need to figure something new to complain about.

I think it will be a long term cancer source.

I hope precautions and water quality monitoring is SOP on all Pacific fleet ships now.

I think it will be a long term cancer source.
But with little to no real impact. Most of the radioactive debris will be within a few kilometers of the destroyed core.

Do you have any sense for the percentage of crew members aboard naval vessels expected to have these kinds of diseases? Is 51 a large number? What about the other 5500 crew members?

their garbage is washing up on our entire west coast. Their signature radiation has been found in Pacific waters, up to California......

And once again, with no impact.

A quarter of a million building were destroyed. They are a drop in the ocean.

it depends on the long......today it is no problem. And there are rumors flying that the plant is still leaking.
When one factors in the life cycle of radiation, it doesn't just magically disappear, it has to end up somewhere....

Right. The Pacific Ocean is a very, very large body of water. Water absorbs neutrons. The radioactive particles will drift farther and farther apart. Many will end up on the bottom of the ocean.

Even if Japan bulldozed all of the topsoil and all of the radioactive debris into the ocean there would be no long-term impact. In a few years, the background radiation level of the Pacific Ocean will not have changed in any measurable way.

51 is very high in such a small sample.

Also low levels of radiation can be more dangerous than high levels if the low levels don't tip off your immune system that something is wrong.
