So, I signed up for "The Cherokee people demand the truth" facebook page.

I've been interested in this and that Elizabeth Warren lied for so many years about being Cherokee.

Yes, I understand it's also a political tool, but she checked the college box without showing any proof she was indeed Cherokee.
No, it doesn't matter she didn't receive any "casino money" but she got to check that minority box.
People can no longer lie about their ancestory.
Well, except for Obama.

I have to admit that I admire them for standing up to the powers that be.

I have to admit that I admire them for standing up to the powers that be.

"Both sides, oddly enough, agree that tribal membership is a political designation, rather than a racial one. No one wants to use a strict blood quantum — say, a requirement of 1/16th Cherokee blood — to determine who belongs. "I refuse to create a sieve through which our grandchildren will fall out," says David Cornsilk, a Cherokee-by-blood who sides with the Freedmen. But each side sees very different implications. "What is identity?" posits Smith. "What is an Indian? What is a Cherokee? I would say it's someone part of a recognized community." Recognized, though, meaning on the proper Dawes List — not meaning active members of the tribe, as Vann asserts it should. "Even though Freedmen people didn't participate in tribal councils for many years, they have served in Cherokee schools and hospitals."

I'm sure everyone at Time was aghast but non-whites frequently pay no attention to the official nonsense about diversity.

They should

They should

I understand she earned all her degrees, but would she have been accepted without checking that minority box?

It's a reasonable question. We know for a fact that college administrators lower standards to make the student body more diverse.

Elizabeth Warren lied

Yes, she did and I think they should call her out on it. I could have done the same but it would have been a lie. Now my children can but they don't. They do have a great grandmother that was full-blooded Sioux and have proof.

Warren played the race card to her advantage knowing she wasn't. I am with them on this issue. She may have not gotten funds but it did help her be accepted.

Actually she never checked any box.. so her Cherokee ancestry made no difference in her career either way, except to those who were claiming ethnic diversity. Her Cherokee ancestry is like my own.. about 1/32 ... which is an interesting footnote in family lore... and may account for high cheekbones and tall, slim women.

This is a tempest in a teapot unless one really wants to attack Elizabeth Warren.

1/32 ancestry of any kind would account for virtually nothing.

Her paperwork has been published.. She never claimed any entitlement based on her Chrerokee ancestry.... which doesn't count anywhere if you are more than 1/16th.

You aren't claiming any entitlement when you tell an admissions board you're a member of a particular ethnic group but she no doubt knew it would advance her prospects.

Exactly.. It counts for nothing for me or my 1/64th children or their first cousins.. Its just a bit of fmily history.

To claim entitlement you have to do the paperwork and the paperwork has to be vetted by some Indian Heritage Council.. I wouldn't get exercised about it.

Again, telling an admissions board you are part Cherokee isn't claiming an entitlement but she no doubt knew it would advance her prospects. Secondly, I do get execised when my government and universities practice racial discrimination.

That's correct. I have high cheek bones and brownish skin and don't go around claiming I am Native American even tho it's hard to convince them I am not. She was deliberately lying and brought it up many times. I could have easily passed claiming something I am not.

It must be tempting to try and cash in on government sanctioned racial discrimination. What a great country, huh?

She was just wrong doing this. I worked while going to college and didn't ask or try to defraud and play the race game. My husbands Dad that was half never did either. He retired from the military.

Well I also have a sister-in-law that is half Cherokee and I know many of them, and other tribes. I had a young man that stayed with me over a year that was half Choctaw, and have visited and love the Navaho (actually went to Church with them) among many others. Their is bad and good in every quote race but I know many with good hearts. The hearts of people are what matters not the tone of ones skin.
