The lower ranch, the high desert get hot in summer, everything grows as if in a greenhouse.

I'll see if two pictures can be posted at once. It takes 4min to upload a picture.

Greetings Common, There are thousand of miles wild land where the mustang run free, plenty for them to eat.

This is off HWY 50, called the Loneliest Road in America, if you continue east soon there will be no people, cars, fences only empty, beautiful country. On the hills you might see Mountain Sheep, on the flats deer, antelope, elk, rabbits but no people. If you ride into the hills and valleys, might run into a ghost town.

Great pick, it doesn't look like there is much transition land. Almost big forest to ever greens to sand

I'm moving to the high desert actually.

I'll explain shortly.

I think deserts are beautiful, however, having been through the Rockies I am partial to mountains and the Pacific Northwest forests. I would love to explore a desert, if I didn't burst into flames upon entering direct sunlight. I use to joke about my intolerance to sun and heat and then I developed an actual "allergy" to the damn sun. Ridiculous! Although I have found an antihistamine that helps... and I know there are parts of seasons in which it would be more practical to visit a desert.

Our upper ranch is in the mountains 6800ft.

The transition is many miles west, this part of the high desert is 4300ft. The hills in the last picture are high desert land, same sort of plants and animals.
--------------------

When in the sun a western hat, shades and a long sleeve shirt, should do the job. Antihistamines are not good in the long run.

This, the high desert, is desert due to the drying wind the removes surface moisture, there is moisture beneath the surface of the land, not much of the mineral earth is sand more clay like.

Tomatoes love to grow here, peppers grow but the plants are small unless the soil is developed.

This trough gives the mustangs a water when they drop by for a bite of Russian Olive. There is a lake about three miles east and a river south, I really like their coming by.

I really enjoyed my time in the deserts of California, Nevada and Utah. I can't wait to go back.
