"...Donald Trump often portrays himself as a savior of the working class who will "protect your job." But a USA TODAY NETWORK analysis found he has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades — and a large number of those involve ordinary Americans, like the Friels, who say Trump or his companies have refused to pay them.

At least 60 lawsuits, along with hundreds of liens, judgments, and other government filings reviewed by the USA TODAY NETWORK, document people who have accused Trump and his businesses of failing to pay them for their work. Among them: a dishwasher in Florida. A glass company in New Jersey. A carpet company. A plumber. Painters. Forty-eight waiters. Dozens of bartenders and other hourly workers at his resorts and clubs, coast to coast. Real estate brokers who sold his properties. And, ironically, several law firms that once represented him in these suits and others.

Trump’s companies have also been cited for 24 violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act since 2005 for failing to pay overtime or minimum wage, according to U.S. Department of Labor data. That includes 21 citations against the defunct Trump Plaza in Atlantic City and three against the also out-of-business Trump Mortgage LLC in New York. Both cases were resolved by the companies agreeing to pay back wages.

In addition to the lawsuits, the review found more than 200 mechanic’s liens — filed by contractors and employees against Trump, his companies or his properties claiming they were owed money for their work — since the 1980s. The liens range from a $75,000 claim by a Plainview, N.Y., air conditioning and heating company to a $1 million claim from the president of a New York City real estate banking firm. On just one project, Trump’s Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, records released by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission in 1990 show that at least 253 subcontractors weren’t paid in full or on time, including workers who installed walls, chandeliers and plumbing.

The actions in total paint a portrait of Trump’s sprawling organization frequently failing to pay small businesses and individuals, then sometimes tying them up in court and other negotiations for years. In some cases, the Trump teams financially overpower and outlast much smaller opponents, draining their resources. Some just give up the fight, or settle for less; some have ended up in bankruptcy or out of business altogether.

This AND the thousands who lost jobs, pensions and were forced into a really rough work market in all of his bankruptcies (which he brags were not "PERSONAL Bankruptcies"). He boasts, brags about his wealth and they look for work.

At the end of November you will realise that he also screwed conservatives with a far greater degree of callousness, since the rebuilding of the GOP will take an effort to recreate a party that has been so undermined by Trump supporters.

He is a Billionaire, he is in development and construction. I am surprised on the size of the projects that he works on it is only 3500 times.

Every time that you fire a sub contractor, they sue you. We were sued a few years ago because the lady drove through the garage door. They thought we should have put something in the garage that indicated that the door was closed. I have never seen any judge laugh so hard in my life.

If you guys want to discuss the truth about Donald Trump Ill be glad to give you some realtime first hand information
I worked in one of trumps casino after I retired, when I first retired to moved 9 miles from atlantic city because I had half my kids there.

When Trump built the taj mahal, he had I believe 200 chandeliers custom made that cost many thousands each, He had custom pianos built, dozens a relatively small custom builder built them all. There were many many sub contractors that worked on the interior. Trump ran out of money, to date that was the most expensive casinos when built. He ran out of money and couldnt pay all the sub contractors, he had no other investors at the point. He went bankrupt and the chandelier company and the piano company and dozens of other sub contractors got pennies on the dollar and many went out of business. After bankrupticy there was a corporation started that managed all the casinos and trump relinquisted either some ownership or all and got a stipend and the casinos kept the names. No employees of the casino got hurt.

Yes hes hurt people with his other bankruptcys, but be honest here doesnt many big business and big investors do that. I know for political expediency you want to make an example of trump to pump up hillary, I got that. Trump is no worse than many out there and lets remember something.

Bankruptcy for Big Business is legal and easy to obtain, BILL CLINTON made it that with with his bankruptcy law during his presidency that made it so the little people couldnt no longer write off all their debt with chapter 13 but BIG business could. Go figure

If you're a billionaire real estate investor/businessman and you don't have any bankruptcies then you're doing something wrong.

The fact that the hack left uses bankruptcies as a knock against Trump is pathetic.

They're morons.

Imagine you had a friend whose business declared bankruptcy. After the fact, he said that it was planned -- that it was part of his business plan. In other words, he borrowed money with no intention of paying it back. He was legally protected from the people he borrowed from.

This is why democracy fails, the average schlep isn't sophisticated enough to understand how business works, they just listen into the opposition propaganda and follow along like good little sheep.

I might suggest the lender is to some degree at fault for lending money to a high risk recipient.

Good luck to that guy getting a loan for another business.

Del corporate raiders democrat and republican alike, buy healthy companies soley to milk every cent out of the company till they make a nice profit go bankrupt and sell it and get their original investment or + back.

Bill Clintons bankruptcy law made that business as usual with no penalties. Business and the rich can go bankrupt all the want. In his bill he stopped little people from going totally bankrupt under chapter 13 no longer can little people wipe their dept but he let the big guys have a free reign. They all do it del left right all of them

Trump has spent a lifetime trying to find angles to screw other people over. He's a FUKING extreme narcissist. Are you DEAF, by the way?

A few years ago a Gallup poll showed that 2/3 of Americans believe that business in America is corrupt. Trump is a Grade A example.

Then we have people like you who applaud that corruption. No wonder the country is so screwed up.

Borrowing money with no intention of paying it back seems like fraud. Bankruptcies shouldn't be built into a budget. "We don't have enough funding to build this, so we'll declare bankruptcy half way through."

Again, the borrower has to prove their project is finance worthy and the lender has to accumulate enough data and control over the project to prove the same.

If some ham-and-egger borrows money and schlocks it off to bankruptcy, that's on the lender mostly.

Trump has a reputation among lenders lately, from what I've read, that they're skeptical about his intentions. Not that he's going to declare bankruptcy - he's not a billionaire by mistake, but because he doesn't follow through with his promises.
