WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is building a ring of secret drone bases in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula as part of an aggressive campaign against al Qaeda affiliates in Somalia and Yemen, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing U.S. officials.

One base for the unmanned aircraft is being established in Ethiopia and another base has been installed in the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, the newspaper reported.

The U.S. military also has flown drones over Somalia and Yemen from bases in the African nation of Djibouti and the CIA is building a secret airstrip in the Arabian Peninsula to deploy drones over Yemen, the article said.

The White House declined comment on the report.

The United States and Seychellois officials have previously acknowledged the drones' presence in the island but have said that their primary mission was to track pirates.

But classified U.S. diplomatic cables show that the unmanned aircraft have also conducted counterterrorism missions over Somalia, about 800 miles to the northwest, the Post reported.....snip~

Show me the money! Another denial Mr President. Another lie to the American People. What was that about No Interests in Africa? How did that Africa Command come into play again? Like what can be placed under Nation Building and Infrastructure? How much per Predator Drone and or others?

Now what is wrong with this scenario and why Should Obama be allowed to spend money to blow off drones? Why are we 800 miles inland into Somalia? why are we building these bases?

We have several Carrier fleet groups. There is no need to build a base on anothers land. This is wasting money and then while playing politics he goes after the DOD.

Yep, I started a thread on this and said just about the same thing. There is also the matter of drones killing people in remote villages who may or may not have anything to do with AQ. No oversight or media to worry about.

Land rich in resources has it's people living in poverty...
While rich in resources, Africa’s people live in poverty
October 25, 2012 - Delegates from around Africa wrapped up the 8th African Development Forum, ADF, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Thursday, October 25. African countries were called on to harness their abundant natural resources for the sustainability of economies and the empowerment of the people of the continent.

The continent of Africa hosts a wealth of natural resources, some of which include platinum, diamonds, gold, copper, chromium, iron, cobalt and oil. “$50-billion leaves Africa’s soils every year in terms of illicit financial flow,” said Yinka Adeyemi of the Economic Commission for Africa. Adeyemi said for too long the continent has been experiencing the draining of its natural resources, either through direct stealing, or by other illicit means, leaving the people of these countries in poverty.

“The problem we have been facing is that these resources are not used appropriately and adequately for improvement of our people’s lives. An economists’ projection for 2012 said that five of the ten top growers in terms of GDP are in Africa. How come some of these countries are also some of the poorest?” said Adeyemi, who went on to provide the example of Niger. “Niger comes in at about five or six in terms of uranium. Why is it that that same country happens to be one of the poorest in the world? It makes no sense,” said Adeyemi.

Adeyemi went on to say that in order for Africans to benefit from their abundant natural resources, participants at the forum put into place some initiatives. The goal is for African countries to have a framework that goes beyond each country so they can work together on addressing the issues affecting natural resources, either by regulation or civil society action.

By the end of the session it is expected that hundreds of the participants will have adopted a consensus statement. “The consensus statement will outline a plan of action. We are the Economic Commission of Africa. We’ve accompanied countries to implement a plan of action. The work will depend on what each country can do,” said Adeyemi.

The abuse that the african population has suffered for years and years at the hands of various machines of greed is one of the best examples of "Money Over People" in the world. The people and interests that let this happen need to pay for the suffering they've fed to those people.

Since independence from colonialism, the countries of Africa have been ruled by greedy leaders who are more than happy to sell off the resources of Africa to line their own pockets.

It is much like the early leaders of the Arab states who filled their own coffers from the oil that was sold instead of using the money to better their people.

Only when that changes will the people of Africa enjoy a better standard of living.
