Louis CK Pens Scathing Anti-Trump Letter: Trump ‘Is Hitler’ and ‘We Are Being Germany in the 30s’
In his weekly email blast, the comedian went off on the Republican’s leading presidential contender, calling him “an insane bigot” and urging fans not to vote for him.
There’s no doubt that Donald Trump, the GOP’s presidential frontrunner, is great for TV ratings. CBS Chairman Les Moonves recently remarked, “It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS.” He’s an animated character—orange, cotton candy hair, tiny hands, dictatorial posture—like a cross between Mussolini, whose philosophy he seems to enjoy (http://gawker.com/how-we-fooled-donald-trump-into-retweeting-benito-musso-1761795039), and a particularly irascible Oompa Loompa.
But underneath all the doth protest too much penis defenses (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/03/03/donald-trump-assures-americans-his-penis-is-big-enough-to-lead.html) and delayed Ku Klux Klan repudiations (http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/02/opinions/donald-trump-kkk-game-jones/) is a sinister despot who will stop at nothing to gain power—this according to acclaimed comedian Louis CK, the latest celebrity to speak out against the populist, hate-filled rise of Trump.
In his weekly email blast to fans, CK compared Trump to Hitler, calling him an “insane bigot” and “dangerous” while calling upon conservatives to not vote for Trump, but instead cast their vote someone more moderate, like John Kasich. And if you think CK is a typical left-wing Hollywood-type, he attempted to put that notion to bed as well, writing, “I’m not advocating for Hillary or Bernie. I like them both but frankly I wish the next president was a conservative only because we had Obama for eight years and we need balance.”
CK’s politics have always been fairly nebulous and hard to pin down. Speaking to ThinkProgress (http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2012/01/16/404790/louis-ck-on-his-political-philosophy-and-the-value-of-curiosity/) in 2012, he expanded on his political views a bit:
“I don’t have any political opinions, I just am very curious,” he said. “And it’s very interesting to listen to what people say. What’s the best way to run a country and the world? Those are really profound questions. I don’t have the confidence to say that I know one way or another. Some things I think are very conservative, or very liberal. I think when someone falls into one category for everything, I’m very suspicious. It doesn’t make sense to me that you’d have the same solution to every issue. I just like listening. I try to take people who are way far away from what I think or understand and put a representative of them on my show. I like to try to learn form them.”
