Chapter - It's Free Swipe Yo EBT (Explicit) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzspsovNvII#ws)

Keywanda is having the time of her life. Her job is raising her family of 10 children while dealing with the drama and stress of the childrens fathers. Thanks to the great state of California, Keywanda can support her lifestyle of having fun, getting "Turnt Up" and the kids can even get to eat from time to time.

Ugh. Not sure what I just watched.

Recipients of public assistance in California access their issued benefits with the Golden State Advantage EBT card. The cardholder simply slides this card through a point-of-sale (POS) device, or uses the card at an automated teller machine (ATM). The card is convenient, secure, and reduces the stigma sometimes associated with public assistance.

There should be a stigma!

SACRAMENTO – In a straight party-line vote, this week the Senate Human Services Committee killed a bill to prohibit the use of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to purchase alcohol and tobacco. Democratic Senators Loni Hancock (D-9), Carol Liu (D-21), Roderick Wright (D25) and Leland Yee (D-8) voted against the bill while Republican Senators Tom Berryhill (R-14), Tony Strickland (R-19) and Bill Emmerson (R-37) voted in favor of the restrictions.

Where did you find it?

I wonder if the actors knew what they were performing for? Did they just not care as long as they got paid? The outtake at the end is sort of inconclusive.

I found it on Amren. They have a section where you can post articles for discussion. Someone posted this from Utube but you can't tell if they had anything to do with creating it.

Even if they weren't told I mean c'mon...

Well they could be very, very stupid. Or not able to hear the lyrics. Maybe they were just asked if they wanted to be in a hip hop video? ;D

Yaeah, I'm sure some people would do almost anything to be in a video.

Actually that woman seems pretty intelligent. I take it back. She knows exactly what she's saying and doing. Seems she is very much against the handouts. I just assumed she was a hired actress. Here's the album cover - sorry for the size:

Yep my initial outrage was the fast food but that changed once I confirmed that booze and smokes are a-ok.

Do the people that use these cards even vote? I doubt it.

I guess the pols that allow it get votes from the 'community organizers' and their sheeple.

I don't get it either.

The way some of these local machines run I wouldn't doubt it. I'm sure they can be convinced to spend a few hours once every election cycle getting bused to the polls. ::)

Accounts of voters being bussed are overblown.

Democrats enjoy a decided advantage in registered voters of the middle class.

It is only the very rich and those who are easily led astray that end up favoring the Republicans.

I think the stats suggest that there are more Dems registered but I'm not aware of any breakdown by income levels.

I don't know this either but I would guess that Republicans actually vote more regularly. The rolls don't mean a thing without the votes.

Yes, but we aren't talking about Democrats and Republicans. Do you think someone on public assistance should be buying themselves booze and cigarettes with taxpayer funds?

In any case, I tend to doubt that many of those on public assistance in CA are voting for the GOP.

“You would think a simple common sense reform like trying to make sure taxpayer money is not used for the purchase of alcohol and tobacco would find bi-partisan support,” Senator Dutton said.

Right! You'd think so...

Actually I think it was happening with regularity and the press began covering it. It took all of that for any pol to even make an effort at doing the right thing.

"Last year a Los Angeles newspaper exposed perceived abuses by welfare recipients who used their EBT cards at Indian gaming casinos, strip clubs, and cruise ships as well as out-of-state casinos. Then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an Executive Order prohibiting California casinos from accepting the cards. However, the order did not address use of welfare benefits to purchase alcohol and tobacco."

Granted, it's no so much the wasted money which I doubt is all that much in CA deficit terms. It's the naivety and the carelessness this exposes not to mention the suspicions it raises with regard to motive. That is, why in the world would this not be corrected immediately?

Conley
09-22-2011, 06:29 PM
Exactly, the carelessness likely extends to far more important issues (in a financial sense) and there are likely much larger misuses of taxpayer money.

Yes, it's hard to know since apparently this sort of thing can be going on and no politician is lifting a finger, but I suspect the problem exists across the nation but is most prevalent in the liberal states.

I have seen peeps sell food stamps for cash. Giving up 20 dollars in food stamps for 10 dollars cash. Usually they're peeps right out in front of those type of stores that accept them. Giving up 10 dollars for a pack of cigarettes etc.

Then you see these guys in the stores buying like 300 dollars worth of steaks and chops. Cases of Canned goods, etc etc. Thing is most of the time they even have their family or wife in there shopping with them. Spending like 5 or 6 hundred on groceries. All in food stamps. Then watch them go out to their Beemer or Merc. Caddy or Lincoln.....Always taking advantage of their own people.

Never seen anything like that with the fancy cars but I don't doubt it exists. Sometimes when you see people in cars like that too you need to remember they aren't paid for and that peeps gonna get the repo man smackdown.

It makes sense to trade your stamps for cash if there's something you cant buy with the stamps but here in CA you can buy anything you want, alcohol and even tobacco! >:(
