“To put it bluntly, Wisconsin’s strict version of voter ID law is a cure worse than the disease,” Peterson wrote (http://media.jrn.com/documents/vote_ruling.pdf) in his opinion.

cures for non-existent diseases is the hack stock in trade.

i can't imagine why

Before enacting that law, the legislature requested data on the use, by race, of a number of voting practices. Upon receipt of the race data, the General Assembly enacted legislation that restricted voting and registration in five different ways, all of which disproportionately affected African Americans. Although the new provisions target African Americans with almost surgical precision, they constitute inapt remedies for the problems assertedly justifying them and, in fact, impose cures for problems that did not exist.

oddly enough, the above abstract is from the ruling on the north carolina law, not wisconsin's

what a coincidence!

To put it bluntly the law stands, Wisconsin needs to make it easier to obtain free voter ID.

"a federal appeals court had already found Wisconsin’s restrictions to be constitutional. However, he ordered that the state quickly issue valid voting credentials to anyone trying to obtain free photo IDs"

among other things.

States should offer services to get people IDs at no cost if they need it.

The concept of not producing a valid ID to vote is stupid.

i've voted since 1972 and i've never once been asked to produce an id.I've been voting since the 50's with no id but when I came to red state Arizona I had to produce an ID. I now vote early and from home since they know they are dealing with a damn good American Democrat.

I have never not been asked.

And if you don't have one, they let you vote anyway but you have to come back by the end of the week to prove you are you. Then your vote gets cast.
