Rounding out one of the worst weeks in his presidential campaign, Donald Trump faces yet another sad reality. According to new NBC/Wall Street Journal polling released Thursday, only 1 percent of black voters nationally support the Republican nominee.

This is the lowest level of support ever recorded among the demographic, indicating that a sentiment already present among black voters in swing states is widespread. Trump also suffers among Hispanic voters, garnering just 26 percent of their vote, according to an Economist/YouGov poll released earlier this week.

Generating support among voters of color ― whom Trump’s rhetoric habitually alienates ― is key to winning the general election. People of color constitute nearly one-third of eligible voters, making the 2016 electorate the most diverse in U.S. history. This renders it essential for Trump to secure higher numbers of those votes in order to win. President Barack Obama won 93 percent of the black vote and 71 percent of the Hispanic vote nationally in 2012; in 2008, he won over 95 and 67 percent, respectively. The most recent Republican president, George W. Bush, won over 11 percent of African-Americans and 44 percent of Hispanics support in 2004; in 2000 he won 9 and 35 percent, respectively.

I'm not surprised at the numbers but the funny thing about this is that the Clinton's have what appears to be a real and deep-seated adversity to people of color. Bill was the one who pushed crime laws that targeted blacks disproportionately and Hillary labeled them "super predators." Then, Bill was recorded saying that BLM only supported murderers.

Sure, Hillary is pandering -- and she's doing a good job of it.

I just happen to think that what comes out of her mouth -- and what's in her heart -- are two different things.

The Dems have owned the black vote for 40+ years. Pretty remarkable considering the party's record leading up to, say, 1970. At some point, one wonders when that voting block will collectively ask what they have received for their remarkable support. At the same time, the GOP needs to offer them an invitation - which they haven't been good at. The other problem is that the Dems offer them money, preferences, housing, food stamps, aid programs out the ying-yang, etc. (help that results in dependency = a form of slavery?), while the Repubs would (presumably) offer independence, encouraging family values, school choice, employment, etc. - which isn't all that attractive of a choice if your politics are based on who demonstrates their love of you by how much they government aid they propose.

The black community would have to reach a tipping point where they tire of dependency and want to try the other end of that continuum. I don't believe the 1% number. There are probably something between 10-15% that see the disaster that Dems have caused in the black community - but other issues have caused half of them to avoid the GOP - and one of those issues has to be Trump in this election. So I expect Hillary will get black support in the low 90%s which is still incredible.

But as the liberal/progressive party keeps taking on new causes and constituencies, at some point, there will be too many groups with their hands out, and not enough resources to fill every hand - so their constituencies will begin to be pitted against one another, and then the thing will fall apart. It's the innate problem with socialism: eventually you run out of other people's money. Someone will be taken for granted, and a loyal bloc like black voters won't be as important when Latinos surpass them in terms of numbers of Dem voters. But, again, I'm not sure the GOP will be in a position to pick them up unless there is a major shift in mindset away from dependency.
