The New York Times has an excellent piece on the ME and just how complicated it is. I read 'ISIS' by Michael Weiss and Hassan Hassan last year and you need a scorecard to figure it out. Tribal groups and religion make for a mess when you add in ethnicity and a lack of education etcetera.
