Couple of notes since you want facts.

1. GDP is the key economic indicator because an admin cannot monkey with the numbers. Big time down and why the economy doesn't work for people.
2. Example of monkeying with numbers. In August 2012 just before the general election season the democrats on capital hill changed the way we calculate unemployment numbers. It is obvious behind the scenes they wanted to take this weapon from Romney for the general. It dropped it to 7.9% JUUUUUUST under his campaign promise from 08. The real unemployment number is probably 8% or so still today.

I am okay with facts for both sides as long there is context. Point 2. above is why we use GDP, it doesn't lie.
