No president can possibly keep all of his campaign promises for several reasons. One is that he is the president of all the people, not just those that elected him to his office. His obligation is to the nation as a whole. Secondly, he must work with a Congress that may or may not agree with his programs. He can of course just use Executive Orders but that will quickly lead to mutiny and possible impeachment and finally, not all of his promises are feasible although they may have been made with the best of intentions.

I am less concerned with "broken promises" than I am with the reason for those breaks.

And yet we have a veritable mass migration of Hispanics streaming into the country at an unprecedented rate. Why would that be?

Either we have a border and are a separate country from Mexico or we are not. If we are then we have a right and obligation to limit those who can come in at will.

I think: He will not, unless forced to, by public outcry, go after Clinton. She will be allowed to slink away, she's finished in politics. His statement " If I'm elected I'll"~ I believe was to point out criminal wrong doing. He, President Trump isn't mean spirited, he'll let her leave with her clothing intact and hair looking nice.

Let them go in peace, President Obama doesn't have to be the enemy any longer, I don't think he want to, he's done what he's done, what he thought was the right thing to do, but it won't be carried on by the next administration.

This is the time for all Americans, not to be hindered by ghosts of past administrations. This is our time.

Same $#@!, different party.

No, not really. He can still steer the nation in the way he envisions without adhering to every promise. This doesn't mean that he will give in to everything. It means that some promises are just not doable and the goal is the movement of the country back to capitalism and not driving headlong into socialism as we have been doing.

Bear in mind as well that the Executive Branch is supposedly a co equal with the other two branches and therefore cannot do everything it may wish to do but it can keep to the course Trump has chosen.

I really cannot wrap my head around this idea that President-Elect Trump is going to drive you back towards capitalism. I also don't understand how the United States, one of the freest and most liberal economies in history, has been diving "headlong" into socialism. The US has been tearing down barriers and bringing people closer economically for the past 80 years. The result was lifting billions of people out of poverty and improving the material circumstances of many billions more. And now President-Elect Trump wants to establish tariffs, in a hopeless attempt at bringing manufacturing back to the US.

One should look to history to see how wonderful the world is when every country is using their sovereign powers to prohibit trade that doesn't work out for them.

Just because Trump says it doesn't mean it's true.

Trump wrongly says $6 billion went missing at State Department under Clinton (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/oct/20/donald-trump/trump-wrongly-says-6-billion-went-missing-state-de/)

Trump’s inaccurate claim stems from a misreading of a March 2014 alert out of the State Department’s Office of the Inspector General. The alert found that paperwork for various contracts was mismanaged. These contracts were together worth about $6 billion. The money didn’t go missing; the paperwork did.

The nation didn't choose shit. The 'nation' is split, bottom line is that the people who have an interest in taking income from others slightly outnumber those who prefer to keep it. Naturally those people proliferate in cities and urban area, we have the great expanse, where America is actually nice.

I think the poll should have been opened longer! I missed voting and now my vote won't be anonymous. What the heck. I'm gonna guess that he'll break about 70% of his promises. Sadly, because he's so unstable I predict he will probably be very successful domestically moving his agenda forward. One area he will do well with is infrastructure. That will put many people to work but the problem he is going to run into is that I've heard many in the field are worried that they will not have the workforce for the infrastructure projects that Donald has said he wants. You just can't hire any Tom, Dick, or Harry. Those types of jobs require skill. I further predict that his downfall will be with the international community and how he handles global issues.

He already fulfilled one, did you read the entire post?

Yes.
Hillary was her own worst enemy. Anyone could have beat her because she was an insular elitist fool.
It was such a low bar that in all honesty I'd say all Trump had to do which he did was just stand aside & let her punch herself in the face.

Obviously a tit for tat comparison.

If you'd really care to catch up then start with post 59 Safety where decedent mentions Hillary.

Get the rules committee together and decide exactly how the "promises" will be scored. If for example, Trump builds the wall, but only gets Mexico to pick up 1/2 the tab, will that be a "promise" kept? Half a point? One and a half? None? Seriously, we need these scoring issues clearly defined by the 20th.

Merry Christmas!

You mean the post where he was directly addressing st_james's mention of the prediction of a Clinton win?

Irrelevant Safety.

Everyone predicted a Clinton win because it was clear that she'd get more voters.

And she did, almost 3 million more. The nation chose the smart, reliable, experienced one and ended up with the dumb, corrupt, lying one. Sad.

My response was directed toward his Hillary descriptors. decedent mentioned Hillary, I responded.

"Mexico will pay for it"

Ok, so Congress will pay for it, which means the taxpayers.

The wall was never needed (illegal immigration has been declining for years), but a demagogue's job is to make the current situation look abysmal. But don't worry -- he's going to make America great again as he pretends to invent new jobs for non-brown people because, supposedly, illegal immigrants took all the jobs.

The far right says immigrants have taken all the jobs. They say that "illegals" don't work. The story changes from week to week. All I know is that the idea of a wall helps them sleep at night... a they pay through the nose.
