The article goes on to look at states where the margin of victory between Trump and Clinton was less that the third party candidates combined.
For example: "Arizona: Trump beat Clinton by four points; Johnson and Stein between them collected 5 percent. But most of that went to Johnson (3.8 percent), so it's unclear whether Trump or Clinton was hurt more by the other options on the ballot."
