Democratic media mogul Bob Johnson told CNBC on Monday that fellow African-Americans should give Donald Trump (http://www.cnbc.com/donald-trump/) "the benefit of the doubt," and hope common ground can be reached with the incoming Republican administration about issues facing the black community.

The BET founder — who met with Trump on Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey — described the sit-down as a "great chat" about "business solutions to social problems."
During the campaign Trump made the case to African-American voters that Democrats let them down, and argued repeatedly "what do you have to lose" by voting for him.
Johnson, who had supported Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton (http://www.cnbc.com/hillary-clinton/), said he told Trump over the weekend, "The real question you should be asking is what do African-Americans have to gain from your presidency."

"Trump is a business guy, and I think he's going to tilt towards finding [a] way to use fiscal policy … to move the economy forward," he said. "Let's give him a shot. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt; see if we can find common ground."
"That's what's best for African-Americans," Johnson added.

To make his case, Johnson, founder and chairman of The RLJ Cos., quoted founding Congressional Black Caucus member Rep. Bill Clay Sr. (http://history.house.gov/People/Detail?id=11058), a Missouri Democrat who served more than three decades in the House.
Paraphrasing Clay, Johnson said, "Black Americans should have no permanent friends, and no permanent enemies, just permanent interests."
"That's where African-American voters should be," Johnson contended, saying he does not view Trump and the Republicans as enemies or friends. African-Americans have "permanent interests," he said.
Johnson said the country needs a leader, "not somebody who's going to sort of choose sides," and he hopes Trump fits the bill.

What's unfortunate about all of this is that there are some on the left that just want to move on and make the best of things.

Unfortunately the other classless left are going to try to poison the well every chance they get.

Oh, there's no need to poison something you will never drink from. Tell me, have you ever watched BET? I have, and it is the biggest pos to grace the airwaves.

I don't need to call Bob an Uncle Tom, but why is it frowned upon, but you have zero qualms with calling someone a SJW, or guilt ridden whit lib? Privilege?

Because I think social issues are a waste of all of our time and the only reason I react to them the way I do is because I'm sick of having them shoved down my throat by racialists who only make issues worse rather than provide solutions to issues.

Whenever I play the "ok, let's just solve this problem and move on" card I just get it spit back in my face.

You don't think it's just a little hypocritical that the guy responsible for so much heartburn for racialists because they don't have a "white entertainment television" that now he gets their praise?

That is my point, not because he is black, but the irony that he is the creator of BET.

Theres some elites on the left trying to quell the unrest, but how can they when you have a president promoting the protesters to go on and on at his speech in peru.

There are some hollywood elites that understand that constant flaming of the left calling all trump voters racist and they voted merely because they are racist, is causing far more harm than good and widening the divide.

Not me derp, I voted for your poster child.

I half agree with you, I think Trump is going to be... entertaining among other things but I also think he'll be able to undo a lot of the damage his predecessor laid out before us.

Here's where I'm optimistic, Trump's not a Republican. The Republican establishment is kind of shitting their pants right now for this reason. In the long run this could be a good thing for conservatives with the message to the GOP being "stop with the establishment bullshit, more conservative ideology".

But we'll see. Trump's not my boy but I hope he does well from a conservative independent standpoint.

But see -- that attitude divides us.

When someone calls any black an "Uncle Tom," the intent is to shame that person into backing away from his/her ideals/initiative. It's segregation by intimidation. If Bob refuses Trump's nomination, who does that benefit? Not blacks. That's for sure.

If that type of shaming keeps all blacks out of Trump's cabinet -- and the result is a lily-white cabinet -- who wins?

I went to bed on the 8th expecting to wake up to a Hillary president. When I found out Trump won, I laughed. Now, it's fair to say I disliked Hillary more than Trump but was willing to suffer either one as president. All garbage smells.

Here's one thing that I think is making blacks take a closer look at Trump. All the accusations of him being racist, etc. were put to rest as bullcrap when he excoriated the alt-right movement and other racist organizations. Also, Trump wants to make rebuilding the urban centers a key focal point of his administration.

That's crazy. After all the Democrats have done for black people they should be eternally grateful. The ghettos in Chicago wouldn't exist without Democrats. The non-performing schools in Chicago wouldn't exist if the Democrats didn't consider teachers' unions long before any consideration of poor blacks. And, jobs? Who needs jobs when you can live the easy life on welfare?

A wise man once said, "If you're doing something and it isn't working, for god's sake, do something else." Look what being loyal to the Democrats has done for blacks in America. What's it's done is prove Frederick Douglas right when asked what the white man could do to help the black man and he said, "Leave him alone." He meant, don't help him and don't fuck with him. Just...leave...him...alone.

Between Jim Crow laws and the KKK and the news poverty of welfare and lack of education it's high time blacks did something else.
