Rex Tillerson, the businessman nominated by Donald Trump to be the next US secretary of state, was the long-time director of a US-Russian oil firm based in the tax haven of the Bahamas, leaked documents show.
Tillerson has criticised the US government’s policy on Russia. In 2014 he told Exxon’s annual meeting that “we do not support sanctions”. He added: “We always encourage the people who are making those decisions to consider the very broad collateral damage of who they are really harming.”
It is widely assumed by investors (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-09/ruble-drops-as-trump-lead-hits-emerging-markets-drives-down-oil) that the new Trump administration will drop sanctions. This would allow the Kara joint venture to resume, boosting Exxon’s share price and yielding potential profits in the tens of billions of dollars. According to company records, Tillerson currently owns $218m of stock (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/12/world/europe/rex-tillersons-company-exxon-has-billions-at-stake-over-russia-sanctions.html). His Exxon pension is worth about $70m.

It is a horrible conflict of interest. Our friends are cool with it.
"Crony capitalism," sarah Palin screamed over and over!
"It's about the establishment! " our fellow tPF posters scream!
"It's all about politics," bethere says. "Situational ethics are what the gop is all about."

And the DNC isn't about situational ethics also? Like when Rodham talks about losing the race with dignity and respecting the vote then cherry picks states to recount? Those swing states she ignored throughout the election?
This is where you lose credibility.

what would a mindreader have to do with you?
you need a mindreader like stevie wonder needs an ophthalmologist

Is T Rex going to divest himself of all Exxon stock?
And what about killing sanctions against Poot??
Those are the first two questions Congress must ask.

Nor will we ever - He'll turn the presidency into hundreds of millions in additional personal wealth.
Probably standing to make more money than he has now.
Sad :(

I read it. I don't see the Russian tie. A few Russian officers, ok. Nothing in the article to indicate it's Russian owned, Russian controlled, Russian manipulated, Russian contracted etc. There's Russian officers. I'm not savvy enough to know the import of it, but in banks everyone's an officer -- yes, everyone doesn't get their names on the filings, but I don't know. Is this much ado about nothing? I don't know, honestly. Sufficient enough, though to ask questions about.

It is. Congress should make revealing tax returns mandatory for presidential candidates to avoid all of this.
He won't. He doesn't need to.
Q: Has Trump ever done anything that wasn't for Trump?
A: No

I'm curious -- why should they? Obviously, the American People didn't care about Trump's tax returns, so why should future candidates be required to if the people could care less? I looked in the constitution and I didn't see a requirement for it.
What about:
1. Transcripts?
2. Health medical file?
3. Marriage / divorce file?
4. All speeches given?
5. Full NSA data downloads of all phone calls.
6. Full NSA data downloads of all emails.
Why just tax returns. Transcripts go to qualifications. Health / medical files go to ability to perform. Divorce files go to fitness. Speeches go to integrity.

Cash is important. Conflict of interest is important. Therefore, tax returns are important.
The Constitution does not mention it. But Congress has the authority to regulate federal elections.

Conflicts of interest can be revealed outside of tax returns. If COI's are so important, how can the speech transcripts be less important than the returns?
How is a candidate's personal cash important?

Actually they DID care .. and that included Republicans.
Sixty-two percent of Republican voters want to see Trump release his tax returns, according to a Quinnipiac University poll (https://www.qu.edu/news-and-events/quinnipiac-university-poll/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2375) in August (91% of Democrats and 66% of Independents say the same thing).

Nope - most Trump voters believed him to be immoral, temperamentally unfit and unqualified per exit polls.
But they voted for him anyway.

We were - and you suggested that if people actually cared about his tax returns then they wouldn't have voted for him.
I showed that they'd have voted for him if he'd gone out day prior to election and shot someone broad daylight in Times Square.

Thank you for clarifying. We think alike. I said it many times: they could find Hillary holding a bloody knife standing over the body of a dead transgender Muslim gay illegal bilingual immigrant unemployed handicapped person (in a safe space) with white powder on her nose giving military secrets to the Chinese taking money from Arabs and it wouldn't matter -- they would deny it and still vote for her. #FlaggedforAudit
