This may sound science fiction, but there’s actually a planet that rains gemstones. Unfortunately for us humans, it’s 1,000 light-years away.

Warwick University astronomers were observing the weather patterns of HAT-P-7b, a Jupiter-like exoplanet (or one that orbits a star outside of the solar system), when they made the shocking discovery.

The team, led by Dr. David Armstrong, believes the clouds on HAT-P-7b contain corundum, the mineral that forms rubies and sapphires. Using the Kepler space telescope, the team noticed that the planet, which is twice the size of our Sun, shimmered like a gemstone. This phenomenon is caused by dramatic windstorms pushing the clouds around the planet at various speeds. It’s the first documented evidence of a weather system on a “gas giant,” a term used to describe planets—like Jupiter and Saturn—that are mostly made of hydrogen and helium.

Twice our sun? I do not trust the source! HAT-P-7b is almost 2x Jupiter.

HAT-P-7b (or Kepler (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler_Mission)-2b) is an extrasolar planet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extrasolar_planet) discovered in 2008. It orbits very close to its host star (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAT-P-7), and is both larger and more massive than Jupiter. Due to the extreme heat it receives from its star, the dayside temperature is predicted to be 2730+150
−100 K.

A few other things and I kind of wonder. Perhaps the site just wants hits.

You sure can dish it out, but you can't take it at all.

LMAO at how easy you are to upset.

I want to live on a planet that rains puppies.

That would be the best planet EVER!!!

His posts don't suggest that he's upset. Yours, however, are strongly defensive. And misleading -- as usual.

I would offer a remedy for your condition...go over to PF, that's where you'll find some measure of comfort since all the snowflakes reside there, but you've already been run out of there, I'm guessing
There's no one making you stay at this forum.................

Anyone notice that this is the "Science, Health and Technology" part of the forum?

Does this forum have a "Cooking" or "Gardening" section? If so, I would guess there is infantile partisan sniping and backslapping going on over there, as well.

Sad.

I was looking forward to this thread being a scientific discussion.

Telling members to leave forum is bad faith posting.
