We’ve written about the Democratic Party’s woes (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/cortneyobrien/2017/02/03/pelosis-former-challenger-the-democratic-party-is-in-oblivion-n2280280) extensively, especially at the state and local level where they have been virtually destroyed. The losses are so deep that it might have wiped out (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2016/12/27/the-obama-era-has-wiped-out-an-entire-generation-of-new-democratic-talent-n2263997) a new generation of Democratic talent. Over 1,000 Democratic spots in congressional elections, governorships, and state legislatures have been lost to Republicans over the past eight years (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2016/11/11/obamas-legacy-the-total-destruction-of-the-democratic-party-n2244680). The party has been hallowed out, which was first reported by various outlets, like The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/two-midterm-elections-have-hollowed-out-the-democratic-party/2014/11/08/0366c60a-66c9-11e4-9fdc-d43b053ecb4d_story.html), after the 2014 elections.

The Democrats' debate over what to do moving forward is also a mess. You have the last remaining rural Democrats pushing for a leadership change, possibly refocusing on reconnecting to white working class voters (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2016/11/13/losers-clinton-campaign-ignored-bills-advice-and-felt-white-working-class-voters-werent-worth-the-time-n2245095) that voted against Clinton (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2016/11/22/total-destruction-the-democratic-party-has-gone-extinct-in-working-class-appalachia-n2249259) and sunk her presidential hopes. Others, mostly from the insufferable urban bastions of Democratic power (i.e. the cities), want to double down on identity politics and issues (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2016/11/23/washington-postthe-working-class-broke-for-trump-because-they-thought-clinton-cared-more-about-bathrooms-n2249226)that led to Trump’s victory in the first place. What is clear is that if Democrats don’t regain some ground in rural America, the party is pretty much finished, according (http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/campaign/318581-dems-2016-autopsy-the-party-will-die-without-state-wide-gains) to former Democratic operative Al Benninghoff and Professor Heather James. As the Left prepares to fight Trump, they notice that most of the groups dedicated to fighting the Trump White House are solely focusing on federal elections only:

They noted how after 2008, the GOP launched RedMap, which targeted state and local offices. The Republican State Leadership Committee has rebranded that effort RedMap 2020 (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2015/11/05/open-thread-are-democrats-even-competitive-at-the-state-level-anymore-n2076016), a seven-year, $125 million projected aimed at defending gains made over the past eight years. So far, they’re not only defending those seats, but also gaining more ground. Democrats are in for a world of hurt, though the pain can be blunted if they reach out to white working class voters. The road out of this wilderness isn’t necessarily a tough one with a combination of good messaging and solid candidates. The GOP should take notice of this as well. These Trump voters may have voted Republican, but they’re not reliable. If Trump can’t deliver on key promises (trade, taxes, border security, immigration, job creation), don't be shocked if they vote against him. Still, reaching out to white voters may not be so popular with the social justice warrior, snowflake majority that has taken over the Democratic Party.....snip~

If Trump keeps delivering on his promises the Demos will be on the verge of extinction. Isnt it fantastic to see the Demos in such world of hurt? Its like Poetic Justice.

Keep them unhinged, and they will go Right off that cliff BO peep was talking about but could never define.

This makes me smile.

The greatest danger the Republicans face is the Establishment Republicans. That is a daunting danger. I have little doubt some perpetual losers like McCain and Graham are doing all they can to lose the Senate. So let's see what happens.

A very rude awakening is in your future.

If you could wake up right now in the present, you could look at who is holding all the cards. You may want to look within, instead of pointing the finger, if you want your side to be holding all the cards in the future.

Only if the Demos survive.....even Herr Reish of the leftness says if the Demos don't get their act together. Another party can take their place.

There is still a lot of democrats. They just clump together. Like mold.

That bodes ill for presidential elections (the EC requires broad based support) and House elections (gerrymandering clumps the dems together to dilute their votes).

The Dems do need to get their shit together and take a good long look at that electoral map.

The silver lining to a Trump presidency may be an increase in political awareness and increased political participation.

The reaction to Trump may be as powerful as that reaction to Obama was...even greater perhaps.

We could be on the eve of a social movement that would rival that of the 60's. I think it all depends on how far Trump goes.

They're shit out of luck.....as they don't have a Trump card to play.

I've been saying this for a while now. If someone was smart, they'd take this opportunity to create a viable third option.

If Trump goes as far as he promised you guys will not see national power again for 50 or more years (I believe it is likely in a hundred years).

There will always be plenty. As long as the promise of something for nothing exists, they will be near.
