View Full Version : Bachmann says it's not personal.

She says her 2012 bid for presidency is not personal, even though she had a history of calling Obama's views anti-American.

That's about it. Read more into it if you must.

Some scary comments made by random, unpopular interviewees:

"She's one of us."

"I think she's got star power."

I am so glad it's not personal. It's great that she pointed that out. What a terrific non-hateful person she must be.

From Wikipedia: Bachmann grew up in a Democratic family, but she says she became a Republican during her senior year at Winona State. She told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that she was reading Gore Vidal's 1973 novel, Burr: "He was kind of mocking the Founding Fathers and I just thought, I just remember reading the book, putting it in my lap, looking out the window and thinking, 'You know what? I don't think I am a Democrat. I must be a Republican."

Let's pray to God she doesn't read more provocative literature, like from Disney or something. She might be reading the book, put it in her lap, look out the window and start thinking "You know what? I don't think I am a human. I must be a mermaid princess."

mmm yeah, pretty sure women who've squeezed out five kids don't look like that :D

good shop though

it'll be interesting to see how she does against romney...she could definitely swing a lot of independents. i think she's a loon but she's definitely getting momentum and support, plus it'll be interesting to see how the dems respond in their attempts to attack a woman.

That is the one thing I can say about Bachmann.....she will take it straight to the Dem. I think she is a bit of a loon as well. But you are right on the woman issue. This morning they gave up 4 advantages she has over Romney in Iowa. Personally I do not want to see another tool in the White House.....also my concern would be how much she caters to the Southern Cons, with Perkins and the Heriatge Foundation. Also those Neo-Cons.

Althought she is more qualified to run than Palin's dumb-ass. I was hoping to see those two get into publiclly. But Palin won't run. It's all about the money with her.

Conley

I definitely agree about your last two...Bachmann is a thousand times more qualified than Palin, who has already shown she doesn't have the thick skin for politics. She is happier making money and giving speeches / support I think. I can understand that...I would be happier doing that too :D

"Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo's own John Wayne.

The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo's John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.

Mrs. Bachmann grew up in Waterloo, and used the town as the backdrop for her campaign announcement, where she told Fox News: "Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too.""

it has nothing to do with being a woman. condi rice for example is respected by everyone.

sexism is making a different standard for women. if someone says something dumb, they're gonna get ripped on it no matter what gender they are, no need to make excuses or hide behind cries of racism/misogyny/homophobia whatever...

Bachman like others tends to exaggerate or didn't know the facts. Obama gets fact checked by Politifact all the time, quite the liar, the difference is his lies cost us money. Don't underestimate Bachman, she hired Ed Rollins, the man who put Reagan in the whitehouse. Still too early to say who will be on top, anyone but Romeny or TPAW, lol TPAW. More like TCUP.

Obama said dumb things and got elected with no scrutiny from the MSM yet Bachman is called out. I'll take her over the MESSiah because his mess is bigger than Bush's. Remember when Obama said "Bush is evil" even called him dumb and a war criminal. Now Obama is a war the criminal, somebody call Spain.

The only difference between Neo-Libs and Neo-Cons. Is who will be in Charge.....

Bachmann is not a Leader and should not be treated like one. Does anyone here think that this woman is a Conservative? 5 kids and 24 foster kids. How many programs was she getting support from. Already they can dispute where she gets her money from. Str8 out of the Gate.
She thinks she is a diva in politics. What does that tell you? Other than she is like Palin. At least Bachmann understand the process of legislation. Still she is about the lime-light.

Would a true conservative be about the lime-light? Being out on front street for all to see. Personally I feel if someone is a true conservative. That they would be more apt to be behind the scenes rather than up front with them. Which is why I think Conservatives should be their own party with their own platform.

Bachman took medicare funding to train medical workers in the clinic her husband runs and she received farm subsidies too. Even mailed a letter to Obama thanking him for milk and pork subsidies to stabilize prices. Seems to like earmarks when they benefit her family too. She's not as conservative as advertised.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/20/michele-bachmann-government-pork_n_880765.html
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has built a large part of her conservative appeal on strict opposition to federal intervention in the free market. Her real-time criticism of the Troubled Asset Relief Program earned her plaudits among the base voters who will soon decide Republican primary elections. Her pledge to repeal President Obama's health care law, on grounds that it imposes an across-the-board government solution, has become a focal point of her presidential campaign.

When it comes to the agriculture industry, however, Bachmann's record doesn't match the fiscal conservative hype. A Freedom of Information Act request for communications the Minnesota Republican has had with the Department of Agriculture shows that she leaned heavily on federal officials for help -- never more so than when it came to aiding the pork and dairy producers in her state.

On Oct. 5, 2009, Bachmann wrote Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack praising him for injecting money into the pork industry through the form of direct government purchases. She went on to request additional assistance.

"Your efforts to stabilize prices through direct government purchasing of pork and dairy products are very much welcomed by the producers in Minnesota, and I would encourage you to take any additional steps necessary to prevent further deterioration of these critical industries, such as making additional commodity purchases and working to expand trade outlets for these and other agricultural goods," Bachmann wrote.

But as she prepares to barnstorm through early primary states, in what is increasingly being treated as a serious candidacy for the White House, her record on government spending is undergoing enhanced scrutiny. Bachmann herself has a family farm -- managed most recently by her now deceased father-in-law -- that received $251,000 in farm payments between 1995 and 2006.

The congresswoman has been careful to hit the right notes with respect to ethanol subsidies, which help her home state but have become a crowning example of government spending that could be dropped. But with respect to other federal expenditures, including earmarks, her record has raised doubts. She infamously argued that transportation projects should not be subjected to Congress' earmark ban.

GRUMPY
06-29-2011, 07:43 PM
the problem with earmarks is that it was the taxpayer's money in the first place....if they can get any of it back in this upside down relationship between those who pay and their elected servants, so be it.....
