I find it rather instructive--and frankly, quite surprising--that Iowa's Des Moines Register has now endorsed Gov. Romney for president. That is because the Des Moines Register is a quite liberal newspaper; it endorsed then-Sen. Obama in 2008, and had not endorsed a Republican presidential candidate in 40 years, until now.
True, newspaper endorsements simply do not carry the same degree of clout that they once did. But if this can turn only a handful of votes in The Hawkeye State, it could be important for garnering its six electoral votes.
More importantly, it appears to be emblamatic of the way the race is now shaping up...
