Trump's first address to Congress.

It starts in a few minutes. I suspect Trump will be on time, unlike Obama. As a point of reference, here is how the press treated Obama on the occasion of his first address to Congress (http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/geoffrey-dickens/2017/02/28/flashback-media-gushed-over-obamas-first-address-congress).

“He took us to the mountain tops.”

“Big and bold.”

“He wowed us!”

No, these aren’t movie critic blurbs on a movie poster praising a star actor’s performance, these were the immediate reactions from the liberal media to President Barack Obama’s first address to Congress. Will Donald Trump’s speech tonight receive similar accolades? Given the press’s hostility to the new president, it seems unlikely.

But back in 2009, the first takes on Obama’s speech were effusive. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews gushed “He wowed us!” CNN’s Jack Cafferty proclaimed “He’s got what it takes to lead this country back into the sunlight.”ABC’s George Stephanopoulos cheered that Obama “began on hope” and “ended on hope.”

Stephanopoulos’s colleague Terry Moran called the speech “big and bold” but never called it liberal, even though it was a wish list of leftist policies. On the other hand, Governor Bobby Jindal, who delivered the GOP response that night, was called a “Debbie Downer” by CBS’s Maggie Rodriguez.

The following is just a sampling of the most enthusiastic responses to Obama’s first address to Congress from the MRC archives:

Plenty of gushing videos at the link.

With this as the standard, let's see how the press performs today and tomorrow.

The Dems did a good job expressing their disagreement with the repeal and replace Obamacare part. A classy way of doing it.

Mattis confims the raid where a SEAL died was a success and much actionable intellegence was obtained (despite the fake news reports).

Also the SEAL's wife is in the chamber.

President Donald Trump (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/donald-trump.htm), who staked his campaign on a hard-line approach to illegal immigration (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/immigration/illegal-immigration.htm), now says he is open to considering possible legal status for some undocumented immigrants (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/immigration/pathway-to-citizenship.htm) as part of a compromise to overhaul the nation’s immigration system.
“The time is right for an immigration bill (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/immigration/immigration-reform.htm), as long as there is compromise on both sides,” Trump told news anchors and correspondents attending a White House luncheon today.
The president is floating the idea ahead of his first address to a joint session of Congress (http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/us/joint-session-of-congress.htm) tonight, signaling a willingness to negotiate on an issue that has pitted Democrats against some Republicans for years. It was not immediately clear whether the president would raise the issue in his speech.

You mean like the Repubs have been doing for 8 years now, or where so many Trump supporters sit with their heads on a regular basis?

I saw it during Obama''s first election, I owned a bar/grill back then and his local party workers were snatching up all the homeless, those without transportation and promising them free meals on their way to vote, it was disgusting.

I think the Democrats are shocked by Trump's first address to the congress. It's not what they expected. Most people Will respond favorably to that speech. Now they don't know how to react.

Oxymoron. The only way to get the scoop is to hear it yourself. If you wait until morning to hear how the media has spun it, you are only getting propaganda that satisfies your confirmation bias. All you will ever know about the speech is what propaganda outlets tell you about it. By passing on hearing the real scoop, you impose ignorance upon yourself. Self imposed ignorance is much worse than regular ignorance.

I laughed all through the speech as I saw how the Dems refused to stand, over and over. Their polarizing party line politics made them look like fools, over and over. It looked like they planned this show of bigotry in advance, but it just hurt them.

Poll: American Public Loved Trump's Speech......

Members of the media weren’t the only ones to praise (http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/article/2616095/) President Trump’s speech Tuesday evening, the American public loved (http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/28/politics/donald-trump-joint-address-poll/index.html) it as well.

According to a new CNN/ORC poll, 57 percent of those who watched the president’s first address to Congress had a very positive reaction.

Almost 7-in-10 who tuned in said Trump’s proposed policies will move the country in the right direction, while the same amount said they felt more optimistic about the direction the country was heading under Trump. Nearly two-thirds also said the commander in chief has the right priorities for the U.S.

[On specific issues, Trump scored the highest marks for his proposed policies on the economy, with 72% saying those went in the right direction. Almost as many, 70%, said the same about his terrorism proposals. Slightly fewer, but still a majority, felt his policies on taxes (64%), immigration (62%) or health care (61%) were heading in the right direction.
Ideologically, about two-thirds saw Trump's speech as about right, while roughly on-quarter (26%) pegged it as too conservative. Just 8% said it wasn't conservative enough.]......snip~

Imagine that.....a CNN poll to boot. That's even before the illiberals are in to cry out CNN being the home of fake news.

Media left and right give Trump's speech thumbs up (http://thehill.com/homenews/media/321727-media-left-and-right-give-trumps-speech-thumbs-up)
Van Jones said that if Trump keeps it up he will be there 8 years. Coming from that commie, that is some comment.

Maddow pans “small and stunty” demo response (http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/maddow-calls-dem-response-trump-speech-small-stunty/)

Racheal didn't like the little guy's remarks. Said it was small and stunty.

Former Democratic Gov. Steven Beshear’s response to President Donald Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday evening was so underwhelming even liberal pundits like MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow described it as “stunty and small.”
