I got a high end PC for an early Christmas present. (That's why I disappeared for several months. VR rocks.)

Right now, I'm playing Battlefield 1, or Dishonored 2. The graphics in BF1 are nothing short of amazing. And I like D2. I'm playing as Empress Emily, with no powers, and no killing. Not easy.

An early Christmas present in March? That's SUPER early.

No games here -- I'm starting seeds in my greenhouse and riding my bike when the weather permits.

Enjoy your weekend!

Good luck with the seeds, and have a great weekend.

I know myself too well to get into the whole video game scene, i.e. easily addicted to things like that. When I moved to L.A. in the late '80s, I stayed in a place where they had an'Asteroids 2' game, and I lived on that thing for days at a time. When I got my first PC ten years later, I got infected with the Tetris bug. If I had a difficult time pulling myself away from relatively primitive games like those...

Here's a taste of some online play for you... notice the lovely explosions.

This month to date, I've been focused on Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and NieR: Automata. In fact, I think I'll go start a thread about the latter!

I finally took my old netbook and erased Win 10 and put Win 7 on so I can play my older games- Total War and Civ III Conquests. I got a USB hub so I can hook an optical drive up to it, the TV, and a mouse. Big screen war!

You would probably like Company of Heroes then. It's a real-time strategy game based on WWII. Incidentally, the Brits are my favorite faction in the game.

You'd probably like EVE online

By far the closest thing to a living, breathing player run system.

From the economy to the insane political drama ... shit is crazy. Real risk.

I don't think I've played that, unless I played a demo back when.

I've played quite a few RTSs over the years, from Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, to Starcraft II.

It's how I deal with stress. The way I'm playing through Dishonored 2 is really different from my usual playing style. Usually, if my orders are to not be detected, I kill every guard, NPC, what-have-you, in the area. If they're all dead, they can't detect me. :)

I've been thinking about doing the same thing with one of my old systems, and Windows 95, so I can play Redneck Rampage and No One Lives Forever.

The first two have to be played on the 'net - but that's fun cos you play against real people all across the world, but Empire Total War can also be played against the computer. ETW is a very old game and I bought it and Napoleon Total War for like $10 on sale. The others are free to download and play.

But be careful with World of Warships and World of Warplanes, cos if you are a newby, there will be experienced players who will gang up on you and seal-club you (sink you or shoot you down). Happens to me all the time, but I don't care and I'm gaining experience. I'm now just good enough to repeatedly get 'Ace' (five kills) and top of the team scores, in air battles, but I'm not so good at naval battles (I think I don't have enough patience, so I YOLO into enemy formations spraying gunfire and torpedoes at anything in sight - and get sunk by a BB which is standing off. But it's still fun.)

To varying degrees! Here's my tentative scoring of each game to give you an idea:

NieR: Automata: 9.5
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 8
Horizon: Zero Dawn: 8

(I've finished NieR and Horizon, but am still playing Zelda.)

My favorite new game from this quarter so far is already set in stone (as it may be my favorite ever), but that will be a topic for when this quarter has ended, as I don't wish to inundate people like I have sometimes in the past, I think. However, one can get a hint by looking at my avatar.

It looks like someone has been visiting Possum Springs. I've heard good things about NITW. I'll probably get it sometime, when I've got the time.

What you're describing happens to n00bs in every combat game. :)

I haven't done any air combat games in several years. But I've always been good at tank and naval warfare games.

I haven't played Titanfall or Overwatch. Not sure if I'm going to try them, or not. I'm generally at a disadvantage in run-and-guns. I'm more of a sniper, than assault. :)

They're a nice change-up. I find FPS games a bit monotonous, and COD is the only one I play on a console. The War Robots app is amazing. It's a FPS and has great graphics and gameplay. It's free.

Yea i'm losing the drive to log in pretty quickly. It's similar to the WoW themepark platform.

I just keep falling back to EVE. Games just don't appeal to me without risk.

If you like tank warfare, you could try this one - same deal, it's free, and you play against people around the world.

http://gamingshogun.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/world-of-tanks-screenshot-3.jpg

I downloaded it, but I haven't tried it yet - I like the air combat games best, cos they are a good combination of reflexes and strategy. Like if you haven't got a powerful fighter, you can climb as fast as you can in the early stages of the battle (when everyone is too busy to notice you), and use your altitude to give you speed and the surprise factor to latch on to a better aircraft's six. And if your aircraft is nimble enough you can stay within firing distance and wear him down even if you are only armed with light machine guns - eventually he will tire of twisting and attempt to use his superior power to climb - that's when he is toast if you are quick.

Personally, I've never played another game that quite so fully encapsulated my own worldview, and that's a major factor in my enjoyment thereof. :cool2:
